They were working with an Aussie developer to come up with the next generation of the server. For some reason, the new developments were not (yet) open source. One of the current crew (and the owner of the domain) apparently got rather upset about that. The other two quit in response.

Not sure if RIAA would have any benefit in poisoning it. It's aimed at complete CDs so most likely thay would tick off the handful remaining CD buyers they have left. (Which of course doesn't mean its past them...)
