Welcome to IWETHEY!

New We had similar concerns about a TiBook.
My wife's Titanium 667 MHz G4 PowerBook had a hinge that froze and broke away from the lid. She continued to use it for a few months, until the 2nd hinge broke away from the lid. :-(

It's a work machine, so she asked around about repair/replacement options. She was pleased to learn that it's a common problem and a company called [link|http://www.macresq.com/store/index.php|MacResQ] repairs one or two hinges for [link|http://www.powerbookresq.com/detail.php?prodID=P009742|$269].

They also repair [link|http://www.ipodresq.com/menu.php|iPods], for those who aren't mechanically inclined. It's obviously cheaper to do it yourself if you can. I'm glad it worked out well!

MacResQ seems like a good outfit, but we don't have any experience with them just yet.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Saw some of those offers
$120 to repair. It was 199 to purchase. At that point, I'd have ended up using it as a portable HD and bought a new one. My fix point was sub $75. Alot of folks are selling the screens for that or more. Lucked into a canadian on ebay that was taking best offers.

New Worked with MacResQ before

The first time was when the screen on my iPod cracked. Apple was going to charge me US$350 flat. I saw a recommendation for iPodResQ and got it done for US$112, including overnight shipping.

Last week I upgraded the hard drive in my AlBook (a surprisingly arduous process) and when I had everything put together, the unit wouldn't power up. Since I had no desire to go back inside, I put in a service order to MacResQ. They sent me an overnight box, the tech got it working and just charged me for one hour labor.

For the DIY'ers, let me recommend another site:

It has instructions for laptop repair/upgrade free (PDF format) with plenty of photos and step-by-step instructions.
