New Same NIMBY as with airports - and raises the same question:
Who was there first, the day care center, or the hog farm?(*)

Moving to the countryside and playing surprised at the smell of manure is just as stupid as moving in next to an airport and then whining about the noise.

(*): OK, *almost* the same question -- the other one has "airport?" at the end, in stead of "hog farm?". :-)

Yes Mr. Garrison, genetic engineering lets us correct God's horrible, horrible mistakes, like German people. - [link|http://maxpages.com/southpark2k/Episode_105|Mr. Hat]
New Well, there is the question of scale...
There's a difference between moving to the country and living next to a farm with 20 pigs, and having a huge conglomerate start a farm next door with 10,000 pigs.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who wonders how people in Delaware can stand the [link|http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050619/NEWS01/506190350/1006|smell from all the chicken farms]...)
New 10K? A trifle.
That would be a very small operation, actually.

When a dyke collapsing means sterilizing the local river for ten miles downstream (AISTR happening in the Carolinas a couple/few years back) it might be time to look at whether there's a problem or not.
