Your comments in the Q & A forum regarding my Sound System questions were so helpful, I just can't thank you all enough! I went to church today and had a complete print out of the entire thread, as I set up the Sound board today. Using your comments and referring here and there to the manual, I accomplished the following things: 1) I discovered that the organ's sound was reduced by the 20db button, and that's why it wasn't as loud as everyone else unless I cranked it way up! I turned off the 20db button, and Voila, she was balanced with everyone else! 2) I adjusted the gain knobs in respect to the faders, and also put down the 80hz high-pass filter on some channels where it wasn't down, and the sub-sonic feedback (hum) completely disappeared!!! Now I can leave the keyboard, mike and organ all on without having to mute them at the board later, because of the hum! 3) I figured out that Stereo L/R channels are enabled and Mono is currently not enabled, because of the way it's set up. That's ok though, now I know which faders to use to adjust the mains! 4) I finally got my lights to blink up and down on the Equalizer! I examined what you all said and then examined the manual and discovered that the meter select button was in the wrong position to monitor the L/R Stereo channel. I switched it and Voila, the instruments FINALLY registered on the board! 5) I discovered the Peak lights, but I still can't get them to blink occasionally. But it's a big room and only a couple instruments, so maybe that's ok. and 6) We finally got the second wireless mike hooked up! Now that I knew how to enable power to the channel in every way necessary, we plugged up the other mike, gave it power, and Voila... we had a second mike working! This was a 99% success today! Why 99% you ask? Well, the preacher had on the right Wireless mike.... but nothing I could do would give him any volume. Why not? Well, duh, he didn't turn it on! Not my fault! ;) THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I feel like I have some control of the situation now, and that just means SOOOOO much to me! Actually Conrad, the problem to begin with was that I couldn't hear the organ from clear across the stage so I couldn't stay in time with her. So I sought a solution, and it led me to Yosef, the Yamaha Sound Board. ;) Now I get to teach it to someone else this week. :) Brenda "I'll rock the darn boat all I want to, and if it's meant to stay afloat, then it will. I got tagged to be the 'sound guy' because someone found out I could solder and could therefore repair broken XLR cables and flaky channels on the snake. And, BTW, the coax for your average broadcast FM antenna is a bitch to put connections on as the shield is a corrugated copper tube that needs cutting with a hacksaw and you need a sizeable iron to heat it up enough to get a good joint. I've seen a couple of those, too - textbook clean solder joints. (Page 1 was a short course with a small scrap board, wires - to practice on.) Women (Rosie Riveter) demonstrated their superiority in much meticulous assembly work - with far fewer errors than ever-distracted males. So we sent them home with a company apron; after they had wired all those B-17 instrument panels. Patriarchies are so habitually dense. 'Course most Heaths were built by men (and their kids!) - a natural process for culling, IDing future engineers. All such talents are soo unnecessary for learning the TLA bafflegab of the smarmy Re-marketing 'Economy'. (Kinda surprised how few here! would dare even just to tack-solder a wire from Point A to Point B, on occasion.) Fewer and fewer left, even to remark on the passing of the once-functioning USA. What a puerile culture as worships dumbth - and doesn't even remember when it didn't. That's not even 'going out with a whimper'! That's going OUT while thinking it's the IN door.
