Use P2P for legitimate purposes!
New I'd best stop before I start lusting after BMW's :)
OT: I really dig the new Mini. Does that count?
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Burn him! Burn the witch!
The new Mini is a smear on the very name.

OTOH, if you're wanting a car that's made by Germans but doesn't sound like it, consider the Seat Leon Cupra.

Most vroomy, and out of my price range; shouldn't be a problem for a highly paid DBA type like you, though.

New I thought all Seats are still actually made by Spaniards?
New Working to German specs under German bosses with German kit.
Let's face it, you don't hear the phrase "Spanish Engineering" used as a compliment very often.

Before the company moved to its current location, we had a Spanish lift. We feared it, and took the stairs.

New Ja, natrlich; it's just the actual workers who are Spanish.
New Span. engr.?____ Pegaso
Yeah, 'twas before my time, too. Don't pretend to know of the vicissitudes of keeping the suckers running, getting spares, etc. But then - these were built as engr. training for students and consumption by the Rich.

'Twas impressively techno'd out, hand assembled, pricey --
Aren't those (still) the determinants of Modrin Success?

Would likely be driving a Citron of some vintage cheap-enough, were they still imported into Consumerland West. The DS was way advanced, save for stodgy/bulletproof original engine. Took guts to mass produce such actual innovation. I could maintain every part of mine. Then.

BMW [aka Boring Marin Wheels, locally] may or may not still be errichtet zu anspruchsvollen Standards -??- or may be going through Its MBz periodic phases of.. dollops of shoddiness (?) Not a dis - I just Don't Know, haven't followed that lore.

If you entertain your wish, I do hope you'll wait a few years to scope the M6 repair record. :-)

Zoooo---->ooom
One-G - creates endorphins almost as good as heroin.
New You could call Pegaso Swiss; it's the "son of Hispano-Suiza"
New Well.. Mkay -
Dunno how much design input in Pegaso the Spanish arm had then -?- but I see the implications.

I admit to a prejudice re 'Hispanic' imaginitive abilities (contrary to the rep), based on several hearsay events and my direct experience south of this border. Which I project upon the Mother culture, in my imagination.

That is, when my SO turned an earlier Saab 99 into a bank, to evade an oncoming pindaho cabron -- they managed to straighten that space frame such that 80 mph hands-off was fine. And given that I left out the 'cosmetic body work' part, to be attended later: what they accomplished was - getting the frame/steering within specs despite some still crumpled pieces. Also fabricated a throttle control part to near-perfect dimesions .. from a fuzzy photo. (It was lost in the crunch).

This meant that they Understood what was vital and fdeduced how to compensate for what was still bent - not an obvious equation, nor one soluble by a newbie 'mechanic'.

Altogether - a level of engineering I'd not expect (then) in a US shop, where they'd just order new parts and Lots of them - as was not an option N. of Mexico City.

Guess we'll never know, given the multinational swap meet which has doomed all home growns except for exotics. Homogenized City. (I think it might be fun to do a kit car, were I in the market for more than my present quite adequate wheels. Unlikely, that. Done my share of trajectories and survived. Don't need to do it again. :-)
New Ah, sorry, I was (mostly) being facetious.
Sure the Pegaso was purely Spanish, as its ancestor Hispano-Suiza had mostly become pretty early on in *its* life. And no, I'm sure there's absolutely nothing wrong with Hispanic engineering... When it comes to imagination, flair, and intuition. It's only the boring bits -- repeatability, tolerances, etc -- that I'd be slightly more suspicious of.

Personally, though, I wouldn't call the SAAB 99's unibody construction a "space frame"... It's just, to put it another way, an ordinary self-carrying body like any old ratty Nissan Bluebird ["Sentra"] or Chrysler ["Dodge"?] Sebring. ;^>

Your lies are of Microsoftian Scale and boring to boot. Your 'depression' may be the closest you ever come to recognizing truth: you have no 'inferiority complex', you are inferior - and something inside you recognizes this. - [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=71575|Ashton Brown]
New Umm yeah, it ain't no Bridcage Maserati - but
in early '70s it was quite unlike the crappy body-on-rails of the Detroit dinosars - in general use in Mexico. They figured it out.

And, pedestrian or not - that front end (different car) folded down quite nicely when bashed, as advertised. First '99 came out in '69 - got one.

If Sentra has now caught up? How nice for them.
New Heh - figured you'd say something like that :)
The original Mini hasn't been sold here since the mid-70's, so there's not much left on the road here to smear :)

Seat had a brief go here in the mid-90s, with the Toledo, the Cordoba and the Ibiza. I think they lasted maybe 4 years before they disappeared off the market again. They seemed to spend all their advertising budget trying to educate s how to pronouce the name, never mind what the cars were, or any features they may or may not have had.

The darling of local motoring press at the moment is the Renaultsport Clio 182 - but since it's not what you'd call pretty, nobody's buying it, regardless of how much fun it is. They're probably all buying Mini's instead :)
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New What, are you completely out of your mind?
The new Mini is GREAT!

Buy it, one and all, buy LOTS of it!

It's the only way, nowadays, to buy a BMW that *doesn't* look like shit.
[Edit:] Actually, I take that back.

I somehow seem to have just forgot that other -- and also British -- BMW that doesn't look too bad at all: the new Rolls-Royce.
