Welcome to IWETHEY!

New MHMP
Must .. Have .. More .. Processors!

[link|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/team_join_form.php?id=679|Join the fun] - use your PC or Mac for something interesting when it's sitting around doing nothing. Help keep Microsoft in our dust.

We're going to be in the top [link|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/top_teams.php?sort_by=total_credit&offset=100|100] soon. Estonia will fall in the next few hours. With your help, we'll be able to take Finland and give CRC [link|http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=what%20for|what for]!

Cheers,
Scott.
New I joined up recently
That's one cool screen saver. I don't know what the credit means but I've got 180 with an average of 55 after 4(?) days.

New Welcome aboard!
Credit is the award for completing part of the search problem. It's like Meat. More credit = more goodness. :-)

It takes a while to get results because 3 other machines are working on each work unit, then they decide what that WU is worth based on the results.

Cheers,
Scott.

New Boggled.
We had this discussion earlier, I'm sure.

Your dual 2.5 GHz G5:

Measured floating point speed\t1109.22 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed\t3535.79 million ops/sec

My 3 GHz P4:

Measured floating point speed\t1535.6 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed\t4419.27 million ops/sec

I'm showing you dust, right now, right?

Only not.

Me: Average turnaround time\t2.63 days
You: Average turnaround time\t0.66 days

/me weeps.

New Re: Boggled.
My AMD 2500 has an average of 1.44 days.

New My AMD 3000+
is showing a turn around of 0.64 days. I had Peter till he threw 2 more computers into the mix.

New There should be a FAQ that explains this stuff.
And maybe there is... [edit:] [link|http://pirates.vassar.edu/faq.php|A pretty good E@H BOINC FAQ]. [/edit]

I think the benchmarks are per-processor. I think the turnaround time is the total time needed per work unit - from start to awarding of credit. Since a work unit is divided up between 4 computers, if you're speedy but there's an ARM watch out there working on your work unit, then your turnaround time is going to suffer. (There's a maximum response time, so it won't wait forever.)

Compare the CPU time results and I think you'll see that you've got a pretty speedy box. :-)

The upload and download rate seems to vary widely between boxes too. I don't know how that affects things.

Also, when I started using DeepThought on the G5 it stopped the Boinc client. I lost a few work units (they never completed) and the turnaround time went to ~ 3 days. It took a few days to recover. The turnaround time seems to be heavily weighted toward recent results.

It may also be that you're using a pokey Linux client. I don't know if the OS X and Linux clients are substantially different. :-(

That's what I think is going on anyway.

Cheers,
Scott.

New Graphics already work on the Mac & Linux !?!?!
I am using a MAC or linux box, and can't see the screensaver. Where is it?

The Einstein@Home Application is ready to display the graphics, however there is still some work left on the boinc client to make it visible. If you're curious and not afraid of a command line, try the method described in [link|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=468|this thread], an experimental client or a third party tool
Here's the instructions from the thread. They're hard to read so I colorized them(Turner would be proud)
blue = user input
green = comments
black = system response
telnet localhost 31416 --I entered this

Connected to localhost. -- System responded with this (3 lines)
Escape character is '^]'. --
<result_show_graphics> --I entered this.
<success> --System responded. Graphics appeared
^] --control right bracket to get telnet prompt
telnet> quit --enter quit to end telnet session
Connection closed.
Going to have to check this out tonight.

Well, for right now, since Seti is still on-going, I currently have seti using 10% and einstein using 90% of resources. Since Seti has pretty much become very unstable (on the server end) being down for days at a time, this might change to 0% for Seti.

I have about 5 more machines to work in *somehow*.

And actually a coupla more after that too. Not on knight or lord though.

We've hit 75th for average credit, and 103rd for total credits. That last person to sign up may take us in to the 100 best mark when his/her credit shows up
