Time to start planning
[link|http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/tech/weekly/2690450|Houston Chronicle] Todd Hollenshead, id's chief executive, said Doom 3 will require:
A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500. 384 megabytes of memory. Two gigabytes of hard drive space. An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better. Looks like it's time to start planning a new system, since what I've got now really isn't going to be enough. Of course it will actually be a while before I can afford to do it, but that just means that the Linux binaries will be out by then. I've been wanting to get an AMD-64 system anyway. Odds are there will be both 32 and 64 bit binaries for Linux. Jay

My system should scrape in.
Nothing special, just an Athlon 2100 & a GeForce 4 Ti-something.
Of course, those minimum specs don't say how sucky the framerate would be...
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.

Mine won't.
I'll need more memory. And perhaps a new video card. Does a GeForce 4MX qualify as good enough? :-/

If I could punish nVidia for deceptive marketing, I would.

Yes, but what's the point of that...
... if nVidia neither knows who I am nor why I bought a competing product? :-)

Then *also* write nVidia a letter saying what you did
I've been known to do that...

It varies
Sometimes nothing. Other times I got a canned response. I've sometimes had someone contact me and offer to specifically address whatever it was that I was upset about.
But it doesn't take much effort to try. So even if there is no reaction, I don't feel like I wasted much energy.
Cheers, Ben

Irrelevant to my system
I think that it meets specs, but I don't care. Doom on up has good enough graphics to trigger motion sickness in me. I've learned not to play them.

If nothing else I'll be right for a display.
At approx 3 x 2.25 metres, I'll be all set. The only downside is playing Return To Castle Wolfenstein on it is damn scary!
The plus side is that Mechwarrior looks pretty much exactly life-size :)

I'm fine
Athlon 2500+ 512mb RAM ATI 9800Pro 128mb
Now, as towards whether or not I'll buy it - I've got three games backed up already: Thief: Deadly Shadows, Morrowind, and Hordes of the Underdark, and I'm probably picking up HL2 when it comes out. I'll probably wait a while on Doom 3.

Next week
Oh god, there goes any chance of getting any work done in August.
I've been drooling over this game for a while.
2 Athlon MP 2400+, nVidia 5600, 512 MB RAM.
Believe it or not, but the dual actually helps; as soon as anything goes out to the system, the system can move it to the other processor.

WOO HOO!
Athlon XP 2500+ 512MB RAM ATI AIW Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB Oodles of disk space
I've largely soured on first person shooters. I will check out Doom 3 though. I suspect that it won't get the playing time like GTA3, GTA3:VC did and GTA:SA will.
And speaking of Duke Nukem Forever, what an appropriate title... The only first person shooter that I really liked and the kick ass followup is late, late, LATE!
