Dictionay Entry.
January 4, 2015.

Ronald Reagan, the US President of the old "United States of America" (now known as the "Corporate Union of Affiliated Biznesses") who lead the charge to the race to the bottom that yielded the current caste society in that country.

Piss off.

New The infamous Grenada ! - a classic repub victory ...
The students were the admin's excuse.

"The invasion was already under way, so even if we opposed it, there was nothing any of us could do," House Speaker Tip O'Neil said at the time. "I had some serious reservations, and I'm sure my Democratic colleagues did as well, but I'd be damned if I was going to voice any criticism while our boys were out there."

Yet another great repub invasion 'victory'....

New Oh, grenada
monroe doctrine thingy. let me quote your article
Casualties included 135 Americans killed or wounded, 84 Cubans, and some 400 Grenadians. The cubans were on a cigar selling promotional campeign I suppose. Of those 84 how many more were not hurt? At this time Cuba had a division at least in Angola. A continent away from a small carribean Island who delcares itself at war with the US.

New Re: Oh, grenada

I agree with you re any actions that were designed to contain Cuba (who were very clearly Soviet's proxies until gorby pulled the plug (wallet)).

Issue re Grenada is just what it was really about. It can be fairly argued that it was a practice invasion for Panama which was a serious problem created by Carter when he signed the Panama Canal handover treaty.

Most people fail to grasp the significance of Grenada being British & Maggie being the PM of the day & she would have had no hesitation in dealing with problems. In fact it may be argued that she agreed to a request from Ronnie to use the Grenada sitiuation to both their advantages.

New Real hearts aren't moved by puppy-dog sentimentality,
maudlin pewlings about things that never were, but sounded Ever-so-Good when repeated endlessly - often amidst such ongoing crap as the Nicaragua scam.

Surprising.. your adoration of this man, given that you're quite less gullible about that kinda crap than the average non-voter.

I had to live through his warm-up campaign in CA, before the ad-hominem became the [1]sole method of political bafflegab - solidly from the My-Gramma Hard Right, who wrote 'how-tos' about torpedoing any possibility of honest debate, perhaps ever again.. here. Via that recipe for contrived bafflegab we now all see daily:

Ronnie et al invented the Fantasy World of that 'Morning in America' bit.
(It's still 'Morning in America' - but for a much smaller slice of the population than when Ronnie was practicing in CA) It's Opportunity Time for the 8% to claw their way up ---> into the 3%. On Ronnie's platitudes. Watch 'em Go --->

But as Michael Reagan pointed out at the CA part of this spectacle, re the shooting of RR:
Then a film cut to Michael Reagan's eulogy:

The memorable part, I thought, began -

..{something} "when he was shot. Yes, he probably felt grateful that God had spared him, *but not wearing his religion on his sleeve*, he accepted this as a responsibility and not a mandate. [!!]

* enunciated a bit slower than his regular speech

He added, either "an important distinction" or, "a significant distinction", at an even slower cadence, almost syllable-by-syllable...

Fascinating, I think. I wonder what will be said in the rehash tomorrow and tomorrow and -

ie overall, Kudos for RR; obloquy for Shrub, from these two.
And I second Michael on *that* part; the sucker had more class, even amidst the self-colored rosy glasses, than the current bumpkin could ever imagineer. True-Believers will, apparently, settle for LOTS-less than Ronnie, currently.

Still, I watched this shit while it was Happening; I remember the mental-health folks being turned-out od closed institutions with *no* place to go. "Tough Love', no doubt; 'love' in Repo doggerel. War is Peace. Love is hate.

Don't plan on rewriting that history Morning- style.. til all of us who did live it - die off or end up in Ashcroftian Correctional Facilities, next to the 40-lifers who smoked pot (or were caught with a week's supply).

{sheesh}

[1] Remember that Nixon 'won' his first seat by the prototypical [literally!] Red-smear campaign launched against Helen Gahagan Douglas; this was Repo territory all along, but post-Ronnie, it has become now a Murican standard: kill debate by non-sequiturs uttered to confound any points raised.

Ronnie ratted out HWood 'commies' to HUAC, ingratiating self into that cush job as 'spokesman' at GE. Tell me about his ethics, sometime. His and Larry Parks' et al. HUAC history is Revealing. Beats Action flics.
New Dont worship the man
nixon pulled the plug and the country gurgled down the drain for two administrations. He said that things arnt working lets try another way. Sure the stark mad were let out but If I have a choice of institution or streets I would choose streets myself. Things did get better, unfortunately he used the current admins thugs and crooks to try to implement his ideas, well meaning man hijacked by theives. Unfortunately he is gone but his thugs are still with us.

New Re: Dont worship the man
Fundamentally Reagan was a delusional, self-indulgent, egoist-illusionist with no use for people from Shining Hill City living on the other side of the golden-spiked tracks.

He was, of course, a chickenhawk.

One need not even bring up his reactionary record as governor of California.

He set the Marlowe-mold for the bottish drone-world we now live in.

New James Stewart flew combat missions
..in the Army Air Corps, DFC with 7 battle stars, was later a General in the AFR.

Clark Gable, beyond draft age, enlisted as a private in the air corps, went to OCS, graduated, wanted to fight but was resisted, finally allowed to join an active unit and volunteered for combat missions.

John Ford, the great director of westerns (Searchers, Darling Clementine etc.) was just offshore on D-Day, filming - was at Midway when the Japs OH PARDON ME Japanese attacked it.

Lee Marvin, USMC, wounded at Saipan, Purple Heart.

Richard Burton, RAF, Battle of Britain.

New Not to apologize for him...
...but I was under the impression he was not sent due to vision issues. According to [link|http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/history/wwii/rr.htm|this page]:

Following the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, Lt. Reagan interrupted his acting career and on April 19, 1942, went on active duty. This was not achieved without some difficulty because when Lt. Reagan took his first physical exam, he was not accepted for active duty due to eyesight difficulties. His persistence finally triumphed and he was given another exam which he passed. However, he was classified for limited service only, which permanently denied to him his ambition of serving overseas. His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation, Fort Mason, Cal., as Liaison Officer of the Port and Transportation Office.

New An that would explain this:
There is a [link|http://highboskage.com/books-reviewed/1892049260.html|gentle chapter] on one-time basball broadcaster Ronald Reagan that tells how he wrote Cleveland Indians start Bob Feller requesting an autographed ball for a boy who had been shot by his father, a mentally unstable World War II Hero Mr. Feller sent the ball. More than 30 years later, meeting with President Reagan at the White House, the Hall of Fame pitcher found that the Gipper rememembered the incident...

New Re: An that would explain this:
I think he already was in full baby-kissing mode when he popped out. So this touching story does not move me one inch. I remember instead his self-congratulations as he left office, after setting up the plunder of the Constitution and tradition and tossing the first firebrand.

New Re: delusional.
My favorite story was about one of the first times Tip O'Neil visited the venerable old idiot in the White House. Got this off a blog, but it is as I rememeber Tip telling it:

\ufffdHe's sitting over there (by his desk in the Oval Office) and says, 'Hey Grover Cleveland. I played him in the movies.' I said no, you played Grover Cleveland Alexander, the baseball player.\ufffd

John Lennon had the appropriate words for Ronnie in the White House:

"Nothing is real."
