New Rumsfeld gets "Foot in Mouth" Prize

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was awarded the Foot in Mouth Prize Monday by Britain's Plain English Campaign.

Rumsfeld received the prize for the most baffling comment by a public figure for a statement he made last year on the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

He said: "Reports that say something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns--the ones we don't know we don't know."

New SORRY!
Management has been running around majorly PO'ed these past 2 days - something has their "tightie whities" all bunched up and none of us peons have been told why. Thus, I can't even risk coming here during lunch.

New Found out why mgmt was PO'ed
Seems a customer called in for an emergency code change. It was installed over the weekend. By mid-Monday morning the change had unintended consequences from the customer's point of view. A high up executive from the customer called up and asked, "Who requested this change?" He was told who, then replied, "that person DOES NOT have the authority to request emergency changes! Back the change out immediately!" So we did. However, the person who called in DOES have the authority to request changes that go through the regular process.

Now our execs and the customer's execs are doing conference calls to ensure who has the authority to do what and when so this situation can be avoided.

New Yabut..
While it may be redundant (for most) to "say it" - there's nothing either fallacious or incomprehensible.. in the remark, except for those with a one-phrase attention span.

He says enough worth rebutting - this is one of the rare harmless utterances.

I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that.
