Screenies. Let's see 'em. Windows included only if...
Screenies snap them.
Requirements (non-Windows): Work safe, and how big they are.
Requirements (Windows): Work safe, how big they are and NOT Standard Windows Themes (you know the boring defaults), unless it has a special coolio features...

I am using gDesklets for everything except the Workspace Switcher, the Main Menu and Actions sections, Mailchecker and Chatzilla. Everything else, stuff up top, games on the right. Clocks, weather, calendar, drive space, ram, tasklist. cpu load, etc... Looks like nice. The starter bars are animated like similar to Apple's OSX. Neato. When you click on em the Bounce, as you move the cursor over em the enlarge and highlight.
BTW, I am runing GHOME 2.4 and gDesklets v0.24.1

Here's my current setup. Not very different from last time (fonts have increased size as I've gone from 1024x768 on a 15" monitor to 1280x1024 on an 18" LCD). The change of monitor will also account for the fact that my fonts look somewhat peculiar to the majority of you - the Dell 1800FP is a BGR device and my subpixel font antialiasing is configured accordingly.
This is GNOME 2.4 with the Industrial theme, which is part of the gnome-themes-extras package. The wallpaper is pinched from Solaris 9. Operating system is Debian unstable on a 2.4.22 kernel, with experimental pinned at priority 1000. This is beyond the bleeding edge, somewhere in the turbulence :)
In the notification area, you can see Rhythmbox and GAIM. The next icon is Acme, which makes the extra keys and volume control on my keyboard work. Gweather says it's a nice November day.
The mightiest of all IRC clients, X-Chat 2, is providing me with my spoddy connectivity. There's a gnome-terminal in the top right, where I'm showing off my chunky bogomips score.
XQF's beautiful Quake 3 icon is from the extra icons package available from [link|http://art.gnome.org|http://art.gnome.org].
Application font is Bitstream Vera Sans, web font is Bitstream Vera Serif.

Minimal daily business tools - no fancies.

Generally there will be more than one Papyrus document open and the ZTree file manager is under the pile. There's a narrow toolbar at the bottom but it only pops up when the mouse is over it.

Kon
Kon is a very fast language sensitive (keywords and html tags in color) text editor. Kon and PMView are the two tools with which I create my Web pages. Occasionally I'll use Embelish to do some retouching on an image because PMView doesn't do pixel editing, just overall image manipulation.
I also use Kon as my programming editor since you can teach it to highlight any language, and it's very good at handling as many source code modules as you want to have open.

Work...winders
[link|http://www.bepatient.net/workscreen.png|Office machine] 347k png file.
Among the things to note...that this machine is standardized and we are located behind a relatively stout corp firewall.
With minor adjustments I've been able to aquire mozilla and operate VNC with ssh to have access to the "outside" world.
And oh...the irony of a linux backround on a win2k machine.

...and there are several reasons beyond the obvious (Jabber access) that make this setup ideal.
