New D-Link DI-713P Wireless Gateway
I just bought this router/wireless switch, and I've been having trouble logging onto it to configure it. I haven't actually connected it to the internet yet, so it's not a security risk. The manual says to connect a browser to 192.168.0.1 and sign on using "admin". Well, first off, it doesn't respond at 192.168.0.1. After setting my test computer up to use DHCP, I see the gateway set up on 192.168.0.2, so I point my browser at that address, and the login screen comes up! Obviously that was just too easy. I try to log in with "admin", and I get "password is incorrect". Maybe this one was returned to stock without being reset. So I hit tihe reset botton on the back (like the manual says) . No go, it's still not working right.

Anybody else played with one of these? Have they changed the defaults on this without changing the manual? Or is this just a defective router? I'll probably end up taking this back, but I wanted to check in here first.

New Call them...
It sounds like someone dicked around with it. Reset should have worked though.

Wireless rocks.I went with the access point acting as a bridge from the hub...was a little cheaper and much easier to configure.

New Re: Call them...
They don't work weekends, and I don't know if they'll be in Monday. I'm gonna try getting a null modem today to see if I can fix it through the console mode. According to the manual (which has helped so much so far) this should bypass the password and allow me to set up my own password. If this can't fix it, I may need to return it.

New Factory reset . .
. . for other manufacturers requires holding the reset button in for 3 to 10 seconds. Did you try that? For a few it's hold the reset button in while applying power (and hold it in for a few seconds).

Some default to no login name, just "admin" as a password.

New Already tried both
The second caused some unusual light activity, but did not fix my problem.

I ended up exchanging it for another. One thing I noticed when I got the new one is the way it was packed. Evidently the first one was already returned once.

I think while playing around with the new one, I may have found the problem with the first. I went to do a firmware patch on the new one, and the same thing happened. When I backed off to a previous patch, it recognized the password again.

Lesson of the day: Beware of firmware release 2.56B19a
