Ponit to Point protocol allows 2 machines to act like there is a dedicated piece of copper line between them to pass signals. VPN Virtual Private Network is a tunnelling solution where 2 machines exchange encrpytion keys and pass ordinary traffic thru an encrypted tunnel. Someone watching the datastream going by could not determine what the traffic actually is. Hope that helps.
