New Veiled call for impeachment
I don't know how else to describe it.
We have heard a lot about revisionist history from the White House of late in answer to those who question whether there was a real threat from Iraq. But, it is the President who appears to me to be intent on revising history. There is an abundance of clear and unmistakable evidence that the Administration sought to portray Iraq as a direct and deadly threat to the American people. But there is a great difference between the hand-picked intelligence that was presented by the Administration to Congress and the American people when compared against what we have actually discovered in Iraq. This Congress and the people who sent us here are entitled to an explanation from the Administration.

Byrd doesn't look like he is going to accept anything less than a full accounting.

New Re: Veiled call for impeachment
Yes, thank God for this man, and let's pray his health holds up.

I think I am also for impeachment - I mean it.

Let the burden of shame to our history hang on these people forever.

New He's lived throught the Pros in obfuscation
Imagine how these willful cocksure amateurs look to someone who has fucking *lived through* 50 years in US government, from Eisenhower ennui on.

A slim chance he won't have an accident or simply, be ignored by the gutless majority. Slim beats none.

A.
New byrd is a fsckwit
ya wanna impeach? Sam Irvine had a whiff of a burglery, we have jackboots all over US citizens asses in the case of Padilla, we have feeb misuse past anything the fucking Clinton's did including Waco and Ruby Ridge that is shuffling off to Buffalo. I want one person with a legal background to explain to me what the fucking difference between me joining a militia that upholds the constitution and going to survivalist school in the ozarks is any different from a devout Muslim going to training camp in Afghanistan, learning weapons training and explosives just like the rednecks in Mississippi and coming home to protect his version of the right to religious freedom. The constitution provides such activities withput denying all civil rights to be removed.

New Take a deep breath
calm down. Try not to think about those evil Clintons.

Now, are you trying to say that Bush does NOT deserve impeachment for lieing this country into war?

I notice you don't have anything to say about Senator Byrd's comments, just a right wing style Ad Homenim attack. Did you even read his speech?

Where were you in 72?
New no he deserves impeachment because of Padilla
and any other american citizen we dont know about who is being held since 9/11 without access to the courts or liberty because of guilt by association. All you leftie types worry about him not lying about sex, human rights violations are the real crime.

New Huh?
All you leftie types worry about him not lying about sex, human rights violations are the real crime.

I believe that would be the Left's point. I'll admit I'm a leftie (and damned proud of it) and I will also admit that I am as confused as ever about the majority of Americans. I mean, it's just beyond my comprehensive abilities to understand how telling a lie about a marital indescretion involving two adults is an impeachable offense, yet lying about a threat, getting us into a war against a nation that could not defend itself and having more than 200 US dead as well as thousands of foreign dead based upon those lies is not an impeachable offense.

The soul and substance of what customarily ranks as patriotism is moral cowardice and always has been...We have thrown away the most valuable asset we had-- the individual's right to oppose both flag and country when he (just he, by himself) believed them to be in the wrong. We have thrown it away; and with it all that was really respectable about that grotesque and laughable word, Patriotism.

- Mark Twain, "Monarchical and Republican Patriotism"
New one was under oath the other was on tevee
the other had been attacking American civil rights will the glee not seen since hoover and the left stresses out about lying. If Sadaam admitted in his own documents submitted to the UN that he had WMD you wont be able to impeach the guy for going "See we believed him and attacked" The other issue is much more important, Jimmy Breslin points it out rather well

They held him secretly in an iron world for the next six weeks. This is plenty of time to hand out giant beatings. Oh, yes, don't gasp. If cops are performing a Fascist act, then always suspect them of acting like Fascists. They have fun beating people up.

I don't differ w/you over the gravity of the situation re: the shredding of the Bill of Rights, I'm just pointing out that articles of impeachment were passed by the house for the "lie about sex", while no similar articles of impeachment have been drafted for the "lie that caused death".

New Under oath
An interesting interpretation is floating around the lefty sites right now. The lie about uranium from Niger was told during the State of the Union address, one of the few constitutionally mandated duties of the President of the US and therefore subject to the oath of office.

Parse the oath how you will, I doubt you will be able to say that lying to congress and the people of the US while performing the duties mandated in the constitution is an excusable action. Impeach him and every congresscritter who handed him the power to make war.

New cool idea
since it was damn near unanimous...we can clean house by impeaching the lot of them.

We'd be left with one from California and not alot else.

New Easily replaced from the 280M.__Nominations?
1) Mike Huber for Communications Director
2) Andy Grygus for Techno-BS Deconstructor / Overseer
2a) Ben Tilly for Details manager; Co-Chair
3) Rand Careaga for Something __ which demands historical and common-sense, because his mind works ~ to mine, and I can't be That unbiased.
4) . . .

The 'citizens' of the States will have to spend at least 3.5 minutes each, deciding just.. who.. among-the-Millions.. will likely do a vastly better job than did the (gutless, recently impeached, found guilty and ejected).

Replace the Electoral College method with (almost anything).
Remove ALL electronic voting devices which do not generate a paper trail in duplicate - into very well-made lockboxes.

Etc.

If we weren't a nation of feckless sheep - the above would be looked upon in the spirit of that old saw, Crisis == Danger + Opportunity. But of course, in tolerating for so long an AG who fears the sight of a naked statue, a nation which has become inured to and even embraces the inane mouthings of a Shrub: clearly we are that nation of feckless sheep.

Oh well. Can't work: never mind.

New Flat wrong

Clinton is a done deal. Stop obsessing about him and focus on what's happening now.

I'm "worried" that we have an administration that seems to be following an ominous authoritarian pattern the world has seen before. I know you've seen it before.

As for impeachment, my belief is that impeachment proceedings should be brought against every member of congress who voted to hand the decesion to wage "pre-emptive" war to the pResident.

Visiting your single salient point, Ashcroft should be impeached for Padilla.

After all of that happens, I would love to see Cheney and Rumsfeld imprisoned, and Rove put on a chain gang. Bush, of course, should be executed by firing squad for impersonating a commander in chief in time of war.

For any Secret Service types out there; the preceding was a satirical desire, not an intention.

What are you talking about? How is Byrd responsible for this? He's the only one with the balls to get angry at how things are deteriorating.
-drl
New really, check out Graham
running for president and running the intel investigations . He doesnt have a KKK background and didnt vote against the civil rights act of 64. Just because Byrd is a old fart with 50 years of service, stating the obvious in this case it doesnt make him into the next American hero.

He was a virulent racist, turned into a kind-hearted person who explicity rejected his old ways and was beloved by many blacks, including his once arch-enemy Hosea Williams.

Yes, I can well believe that Byrd has his faults. But in the current situation, he's the only one I've heard with any character.

Graham? You mean Bob Graham of Florida? Show me where he's talking sense.
