It's better than Windows.

And one of Java's main tractions (and attractions) is that server code runs fine on various operating systems without modification.

Java is one of the things that allows me to run Linux on my work box instead of Windows. And that, to me, is a Good Thing from a practical standpoint.

So can smalltalk, python, and a dozen better languages. More's the point - the other languages also run client code on various systems without modification - something that Java just doesn't do well.

Anyhow, I'd rather they fix the design errors than spend a bunch of time telling me their shit is tasty.

I prefer Python, greatly.

But Companies Don't Use Them. As such, from a practical perspective, I'm glad Java is there.
