New I like the second one.
The first one, however, is incorrect. Because the cat has to be both dead and not-dead at the same time... the blink tag would simply alternate it between death and life.

But that's just me being picky. :) Well, that and I got hit with a lot of emails when I did my Schroedinger storyline in Help Desk, pointing out all the things I got wrong, so I'm also defensive. :)

New My mother discovered another possibility
We spent the weekend visiting my parents. Mom wanted us to stay with them. We thought the 2-year-old and the 3-month-old would do better in a hotel, where we just might be able to get them to sleep.

Sunday morning, my mother said that she had been up past midnight Friday and Saturday nights, so it probably was better that we hadn't stayed with them. I said, "That sounds almost like you're saying I was right and you were wrong."

She said, "I'm saying you were righter."

Using this formulation, the cat can be dead and deader.

Not on the whole that bad an analogy. Unless like me you believe in Everett in which case you have to observe both dead and alive, and then never talk to yourself again to figure out that that is what happened. :-)
