New Effin' STOP it.
If you've got something to say, SAY it. But fucking put a lid on these cheesy fucking graphics.

Use words if you have to. The cartoons are old and annoying.

New So the repetition is the issue?
And only with images? Or only when I repeat something? Seems to me there's an awful lot of non-image non-marlowe repetition going on around here. In fact, that's precisely what prompts me to repeat my images.

How about this: From now on I'll deliver a (text) warning or two before bringing out the big guns. Of course the warnings will be as repetitive as that being responded to, but they won't themselves be images. As long as there's no double standard in place, that shouldn't be a problem.

Does the Corps also have the "This is rifle, this is my gun..."? Sounds like Marlowe wants to show off his squirt "gun".

New It's the waste of bandwidth
I don't really care about the content. The issue is seeing the same big-ass cartoon over and over again. Don't try to make this a political issue with me.

New Bandwidth?
Shouldn't the browser cache make that a non-issue? Not that the image load would even come from your server in the first place.

New It's my server. That isn't the point.
It the people on the "seeing" end of the pages. Those that still access with slow modems. You'd be surprised how many of us still come from MAX 53K Dial-up connections. Most are not getting anywhere close to that.

Please, use the href to the picture or at LEAST make it Much, Much smaller by using web-color only (216 to be exact) and reducing the quality or making a compressed .png

But, I'd prefer the refraining of doing the <img src=....> thing.

New Proposal.
I put each image in its own post in the Flame forum, once. Whenever someone provokes me to throw an image at him, I reply with a link to the posting that has the image. Nobody has to load the image unless he both clicks on the link *and* has his browser disk cache enabled. Added benefit: any followup typed in the heat of anger will likely be a reply to that, and thus end up in the Flame forum.

How about it?

(Say, why would anybody coming in over a modem have his browser's disk cache disabled?)

New Re caching...
Some of us have the browser cache expire after a day (to save disk space). You shouldn't count on previous images being around indefinitely.

Perhaps you could have the image be a thumbnail that opens to the full-size image when clicked upon or something. I don't know if Scott's img stuff here allows that or not though...

Cheers,
Scott.
New Fine with me.
Again, all I care about is multiple postings of the same image. As long as you aren't doing that, feel free to do whatever.
Regards,

-scott anderson

New Re: It's my server. That isn't the point.
Ever tried DishNetwork broadband? Cable and DSL are still are not even on the table in my 'hood.

Light is heavy:
R{} = (2R/W)T - (1/2W){D-2,D-2}W

Heavy is light:
(D-3)(RF[] + 5/4 g) = 0
New Nope.
It just TOO expensive for me to switch from Cable at home. They just raised service for both Cable Inet and Cable TV. $15. They said No raise iffn you had both with them. Found out that only ONE of them wouldn't raise. The wording was horrendous in the "announcement". It could be read 4 ways. Of course what it "read" is that no increase would happen. Blah.

I here nothing good about Satellite. Lagtimes suck. Discarded packets and so on.

It's not really viable to real-time work for data.

Best DSL I can get at home. iDSL (144Kbps) too far away from the C.O.

New Satellite does suck.
We've set it up for a few people who VPN in to our company - the VPN actually performs better over 28.8 dialup lines than over the satellite connection.

The latency is HORRIBLE.
After 9/11, Bush made two statements:
1. "Terrorists hate America because America is a land of freedom and opportunity."
2. "We intend to attack the root causes of terrorism."

Sounds like everything is going according to plan.
New Aye
Tried setting up a VoIP phone and VPN for one user in WY, no joy because of the latency. I have Fixed Point wireless here, no DSL or cable available. It sucks in the latency department, too, but throughput can be phenomenal.

My new house has DSL available (1.5 miles from CO) have 640/640k DSL line on order and the local ISP I'm using (a buddy works there) allows servers, self-hosting, and will throw in an 8-IP subnet for $5 extra/month. I'm pretty stoked about that.

Steve
New My parents have satellite now
They're in the boonies, so it's that or 28.8.

I haven't tried it yet, but they say it's pretty damned fast.

New A retroactive amelioration.
I've just made the image a bit smaller. Down to about 25K. It was already in indexed mode.

So is it just this one that's the problem, or are there others?

could you try and do them all. most of (if all of them) were in indexed mode.

Thanks!!
