Critics also believe that theological colleges spend too much time on topics such as "gender power relations", "racial awareness" and "domestic violence" and too little on doctrine and worship.
wonder how many will have an easter bunny handing out eggs this sunday.

New I am not surprised
The Episcopelian Church looks both to CoE and the Roman Catholic. (And to some extent is accepted by both.)

If the training that I know goes on in Episcopelian divinity schools in any way matches what happens for CoE, I can understand someone of traditional Christian beliefs being quite shocked and horrified...

Cheers,
Ben

New Neither am I.
I agree that what goes on inside a lot of theological training institutes would shock a lot of people with traditional Christian values. It is not a new problem.

I suspect a culture of isolation is fomented and we all know what that does.

New Wade, you might enjoy a book:
[link|http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/078795599X|A New Kind of Christian], which addresses "postmodern" Christianity. I don't think it does a good job of it's stated intent, but it's an interesting read on divorcing Jesus from the current culture, so those of us who dislike the trappings of the modern era can get on with life.

Many fears are born of stupidity and ignorance -

New That looks very interesting.
A lot of teaching in moderately evangelical churches (i.e. like the one I attend) makes the point of remembering the context of the scriptures. From reading the reviews, it sounds like this book takes that a few steps further.

New Adapt or die
The old British belief in institutions that sustained the Church of England has been in decline since World War I. Worse, belief in god was never strong in the first place. Church attendance has been steadily dropping. Only a mostly rural minority believe the C of E is relevant for anything. The C of E becomes a bunch of social workers or they become just a quaint anachronism used in royal ceremonies.
But we must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig, cow after cow, village after village, army after army. And they call me an assassin. What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? They lie. They lie and we must be merciful to those who lie.
