New I wonder if it was best to release that information
By releasing the information that they captured those men and found the plans, it seems to me they gave up a potential advantage. If it were kept secret they might have been able to thwart the plans and take more terrorrists down. Now that the terrorrists know we know, they will make new plans; and we will be back where we started before picking up those men: wondering what will come next.

I realize that this information comforts people. "Look, we captured more terrorists and now know their plan". But I'd much prefer the terrorrism be stopped without my knowledge than to know what their plans USED to be.

New Re: I think that makes sense

It does seem that there is a lot happening behind the scenes. There appears to be so much stuff that is not mking it to the press in US. If the strategy is to hide success against these people then that could be good.

New Re: Local press tries to downplay Macau arrests

Today's papers are in reverse & downplaying Macau incidents. But despite that the US Consulate is closed.

The reason seems to be more economic that for security concerns. Yesterday that news triggered a massive number of flight cancelations. Local news reported something like 20% cancellation rate.

My own wife cancelled a trip she had organised for 20 women to visit India in Oct, for 10 days. Her decision came hours after reading of the Macau incident.

I am not sure if I agree that with holding significant news is justified if it might allow people to make more informed choices, but can see the consequences of people over-reacting & triggering an unneccesary withdrawl from normal events (holidays etc:). Glad the choice to censor or not is out of my hands.

It sure seems to me that US news is being heavily filtered as the info we see coming from US seems to lack large amounts os the substance we are getting from Asian & UK sources.
