New Which conveniently immunizes Pakastan . . .
. . from invasion by India during the chaos, and probably for a long time after.

New While that may be true
I wouldn't consider it an easy way out. They will in effect be putting their country in harms way as well. Any country in that region that directly supports a (potential) US attack on Bin Ladin and the Taliban forces can become a target.

For this reason I would still have to praise Pakistan's offer as a brave one.

New That's not all they're getting.
They want the U.S. to excuse $30 billions of debt that Pakistan owes to various governments and agencies.

New Now why would India want to invade?
They're a peaceful people. Gandhi and nonviolent resistance and all that.

The worst that can be said of Pakistan at this point is that they're the enemy of our enemy. We'll want to tread carefully here. Do look a gift horse in the mouth, but be discreet about it.

New A simple matter of history
Pakistan is mostly Muslim, India mostly Hindu. The two groups have been at war with each other for many centuries. If you have any friends or aquaintances who are Hindu, ask them about it. Islamic people may not know about it, but if they are Islamic and from anywhere near India (eg Pakistan) then they will have lots to say on the topic as well.

Even more recently, India and Pakistan were originally supposed to be one country. That was unworkable due to the history of hatred, so we got two countries. Ghandi was killed for trying to keep them from fighting. Since that failure they have had a series of wars and tense face-offs. The most scary from our perspective being the arms race in the late 90's that they had first for the nuclear bomb, then for the hydrogen bomb.

So yes, it is an extremely good bet that if there was a general offensive against Pakistan, India would join in to settle old grudges.

New Gotcha.
You need to work on your sense of irony, Ben.
