But we have more than one supply line.
Remember, there are captured airfields in the west, near Jordan. Not as good as a seaport, but helpful none the less as a backup.
I'm a little bugged that they insist on slogging through the marshes - and al Nasiriyah - to get to Baghdad. I'd have swung around west and north, through mostly easy terrain, and encircled from the north. Longer distance, shorter time.
The future is leaving the station, the US is at the throttle, and the Left isn't on board. No oil for TotalFinaElf! CHICKENHAWK! Scourge of clucking hens everywhere! Victory is the answer. There are no alternatives. [link|http://www.angelfire.com/ca3/marlowe/index.html|http://www.angelfire...arlowe/index.html]

Could it be that Bush's handlers misunderestimated the foe?

Could it also be...
...a (rather blatant) attempt at misinformation?
I, quite frankly, don't think that any top brass in the field would be talking to a reporter about "underestimating opposition" without a specific agenda in mind. These guys are trained a little too well for that.

Of course, the specific goal might be
to convince Rumsfeld et al that the shock and awe concept isn't working, and they need more troops yesterday.

Good point
Translated: hey, we're overextended, and you guys are kicking our butts quite a bit. We sure wouldn't want you to expose your tanks to our satellites and radar, oh no. Not that briar patch, sah. Nuh uh.

Sure. I trust that, with the exception of the appalling Marlowe, none of us here are pretending to deep expertise in these matters. It's fun to piss on one another, though.

Tanks? Snipers and landmines...
...are much more effective on supply convoys. You don't have to destroy 'em. You just have to disrupt 'em. Leaving the boys at the front hungry, thirsty, and low on ammo. \r\n\r\n IMO: we didn't think this out quite far enough, and need to move quickly or we're overextended.

Are you really that dumb, or just pretending?
Shipping tank fuel by air? How many gallons per mile? Shipping water, food, ammo for 250,000 people through one airfield?

Gotta give Marlowe a break
After all his demonstrated military experience was gained by watching Hogan's Hero's. And his supply experience is from running for paperclips.

Are we really in such a bad state?
Ignore the text. Look at the picture next to the article. Do we really have to resupply our tropps by air? This is scary.
