Welcome to IWETHEY!

New There are rumors . .
. . that Novell will issue it's own brand of Linux.

What makes sense to me is that they buy SCO Group (Caldera), which is just down the street, and already has a number of Novell technologies implemented. The price should be pretty attractive right now, and Ray Noorda has a strong financial interest in both companies.

If I were running Novell, I'd certainly be giving that a good hard look right now.

New Ah... but remember...
Caldera was a spin-off of Novell... mainly due to the DR-DOS lawsuit... against M$... now since they bought BOTH sides of the AT&T UNIX branches... they are prime for 1 of 2 things to happen. Die a slow and painful... taking others down with them process... or get bought by a company that has a motive... Those 3 Companies that would be seriously interested would be Novell (of Course), Sun (for Obvious Reasons) and Microsoft... for yet another obvious reason... and other not-so obvious reasons...

I can see, Microsoft out bidding either company or doing a hostile... mainly to crush the *NIX world... going over IP with a REALLY fine toothed comb and litigating the likes of SUN, HPQ, SGI...etc... into oblivion... or forcing License fees at an astrnomical rate... either way...

They are still in Hunter-Killer mode... even though they got slapped down a bit... I see another Anti-Trust Trial down the street and around the next corner... probably 5-7 years from now... with a similar result...

Bah... Anti-Trust will never work against M$... too much money and too many lawyers... adn too much Greed...

New Along those lines, Cringely says Sony should buy Sun.
Last week - [link|http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20030213.html|Sunset].

Following his reasoning, I don't think Sun would be interested in Caldera. Novell might, but they might be too small to have much of an impact. Maybe Sony should buy all three and then let their record-company division's IP lawyers loose on everyone. Yikes!

Cheers,
Scott.
