Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Hey Jack!
Someone emailed me with a link to post you made on usenet -- you mentioned Truespectra Photo>Graphics and listed Help Desk as a site that used it... the reader asked me if this was still true. Alas, I'm sad to say it isn't. Photo>Graphics is a great program, but it sucks with handling text. I'm using CorelDraw for Windows now. :(

Just wanted to let you know...

New Try this:

Though I'll certainly understand if it's too much of a pain in the 'nads... lay out the pic in TSPG, and use embellish to put in the text. Embellish's text handling is way above TSPG's... I can certainly understand why TSPG's text handling pisses you off.

New That's the way I used to do it.
I actually had an entire section devoted to the process. :)

Alas, the problem with that idea is that once I set all the people in their places, they have to stay there -- so the empty space available for the text is all that there is. More than a few times I had to re-write the gag just to make it fit in the space.

At present, with CorelDraw, I can re-size and move around the images *and* move around the text, all at the same time. It's a lot more convenient.

For a while I tried using StarOffice, but I kept having problems. Can't remember right offhand what they were, but I gradually stopped trying to use it.

New Ok, invert the procedure
Make the gag in Embellish, then copy it into the clipboard. While working on the actual picture, make a TSPG object with the gag in it and then move the people around to make sure you can make it fit.

New Here's the thing...
When it comes down to it, I can either jump through a billion hoops to make it work using my OS/2 applications, or I can do it all in CorelDraw on a winbox. It sucks that I'm doing it on a winbox, but CorelDraw let's me draw the comic so much faster because I can do everything in one place, make readjustments, edit as needed, etc.

Photo>Graphics is a great drawing program, but the way it handles text is just lousy. Embellish does text pretty well, but once you've set it and saved it, you can't undo it. And having to jump back and forth between two programs is a pain in the ass, not to mention that it triples the amount of time it takes to make a comic every day. So sadly, I moved away from OS/2 for my comic simply because the programs I was using weren't being updated, and it was getting to be too much work to make everything fit together.

Now, if I can get VirtualPC to work well with my computer, I'm hoping that I can install CorelDraw and DreamWeaver on *that* -- that would be great, since I wind up doing all my writing, browsing etc. in OS/2...

Yeah, I can certainly understand that... I'm not particularly advocating you actually do it, so much as just talking about how it could be done.

What problems are you having? Are they driver related, performance?

New File sharing
THEORETICALLY there's a way for Virtual PC to be able to connect to the rest of the network (including the OS/2 machine itself) using its network tools... but I can't figure out how to do it. Maybe I need to buy the addons for that.

That's really the only way VPC would be viable, if I could open up files via some kind of "shared" folder that links to actual files on my OS/2 machine. I'd hate for my VPC session to be corrupted and have all my Help Desk stuff trapped in one big corrupted, useless file...

New I hear the performance is not so good
... on the file sharing doohicky. Try setting up peer networking instead. I think it also depends a lot on which version you have... 5 was a lot better than 4, and if you have 4, you can contact innotek for a free upgrade to 5.
