Domains still exist in Win2K, WinXP and still YET in the RCs of the Next version of Windoze... as Domain Members...

Microsoft's Active Directory STILL hasn't penetrated... hasn't even gotten the sweater off during foreplay... and it'll never even get a *REAL* chance to pro-create, it was/is sterile to begin with!

Years ago I predicted that AD would eventually just punt on domains, because the two models (tree vs. domains) are so incompatible. Remember each NT machine has essentially a local domain as well. I've seen "spaghetti networks" with impossibly baroque trust relationships. Yuk.

For file/print in a smallish environment (say, up to 500 nodes) Samba in DC mode is the ideal solution because it costs nothing. If you really need directories, use LDAP.

I used to use rot-13, but I decided I needed something at least twice as strong. So now I use rot-26 to encode all of my transmissions.
