Despite claims to the contrary, oppression, death, violence, etc. are NOT the reasons that the USofA decides to involve itself in the affairs of other countries.

Saddam Hussein is a royal bastard, megalomaniac, and grade-a despot, but I seriously doubt we'd be paying much attention to him if there wasn't a lot of oil in the area.
