New He's trying to tell you something
You can go on and on and on without ever making a POINT.

Example: User says - US launches Nukes at Iraq (as a fer instance).

Your likely response would be something on the order of:

"Wow, that George Bush sure doesn't like Saddam Hussein. I mean, do you think he's using real nuclear weapons or is this figurative and they're battling in a private Unreal Tournament Arena and nuked is just a figure of speech?

Some people think video games are a waste of time. I kind a like to play them though. I mean sometimes when I'm not posting here. But I prefer the classics like PacMan and Gravitar. Gravitar rocked - it had a really excellent physics model so things really felt like they were falling and I felt like I was falling - kind of a dizzy feeling or do you think that might be from my medication?

Maybe I should have it checked?"

Note that the first thought was likely triggered by a word in the original statement but from there on its a stream of consciousness that has nothing at all to do with the topic being replied to.

Babble bubby.

Please stop and think. You are going to get the award for most letters typed per fewest things said.

I think that it's extraordinarily important that we in computer science keep fun in computing. When it started out, it was an awful lot of fun. Of course, the paying customer got shafted every now and then, and after a while we began to take their complaints seriously. We began to feel as if we really were responsible for the successful, error-free perfect use of these machines. I don't think we are. I think we're responsible for stretching them, setting them off in new directions, and keeping fun in the house. I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun. Above all, I hope we don't become missionaries. Don't feel as if you're Bible salesmen. The world has too many of those already. What you know about computing other people will learn. Don't feel as if the key to successful computing is only in your hands. What's in your hands, I think and hope, is intelligence: the ability to see the machine as more than when you were first led up to it, that you can make it more.

New So what IS your point?
That I don't make a lot of points, is that some hidden rule here to make as many points as possible in a post? There are points in my posts, just unclear and hidden ones. Just because you don't get my points, don't try to lecture me on what I should and should not post. Since when did you join the IWETHEY Mafia? Or the IWETHEY NAZIs?

I am trying to be as clear and percise as I possibly can, but I seem to be having difficulties doing that.

All I originally said was that the guy on the photograph looked French to me, and I found it strange. But then to be honest that may have been a mistake on my part, seeing him as French and not Iraqi. I just figured that the way the eyes were shaped, the nose, and the mouth, that it looked more French than any other nationality. Maybe the artist couldn't draw an Iraqi but instead drew a Frenchman? How should I know, it is not like I see Iraqis or French people every day? Much less tell the difference between them, they both seem to hate the USA.

My point is that I make some points in my posts, true that some may be off-topic, but they do relate in some way to the discussion at hand. If you have a problem with that, then please feel free to ignore my posts. Thank you very much gentlemen and ladies, it has been a fun time posting with you here, but I feel like this topic must come to a close.

New Holy freakin cow with a lemonade stand
is that some hidden rule here to make as many points as possible in a post?

One would be a good start. Fundamental to DISCUSSION is the EXCHANGE of POINTS of view. Not EXCHANGING POINTS of view is not DISCUSSION. It is particularly gratifying when the exchanged POINTS of view are DIFFERENT views of the SAME topic.

This is a DISCUSSION board which has an organizational theme based on TOPICS.

By posting SPEWAGE not on the TOPICS you are not joining the DISCUSSION. You are only FLAPPING YOUR LIPS IN AN ATTEMPT TO APE PARTICIPATION IN THE DISCUSSION.

It is annoying. Please engage brain before pressing keys and clicking mouse.

New So you don't like my posts
I still haven't violated any rules that I know of. I know I have made at least a point or two, even if you cannot see them clearly. But I see now that the Anti-Norman movement is in full swing again. That is my current point of view, that you guys hate me enough to accuse me of making pointless posts, etc. What next?

New Ok...please check the forum title for a refresher..
...then get one thing abso-fucking-lutely straight...

This is NOT some anti-norm cabal in action...this is the FUCKING FLAME FORUM YOU NINNY

Turn your sensi-fucking-tivity meter off here.

One thing I find annoying....you seem to be completely unable to take criticism of any type...instead attributing anything negative said toward you as some "oh shit here they are out to get poor poor pitiful me".

Take the criticism...think before you post to make sure you have a POINT TO ADD instead of a random thought to interject that hangs there out of place all by its lonesome...and for fucks sake drop the anti you conspiricy shit...its really fucking tiring.

New Getting back to semantics again....
No, you haven't broken any rules... we are a self-sensure type of group... when a kick in the butt to make 'em right again is needed... we "thoughtfully" apply it.

I've had it done to me, Bill Patient, Scott Anderson, Ross Lunsford, Peter Whysall, LOTS of others... most everyone here, Ashton included, Christian too...

Just take it for what it is... and quit complaining about it. Swallow it and breathe.

And for the love of Mike, stop trying to get the last word in, Norman.

As I said, I haven't borken any rules, and I am sure that I have made at least one point in my posts if any. Just hard for some people to see it/them.

New Shut the fark UP.
It's a continuous stream of verbal diarrhoea from you, and it's markedly reducing my enjoyment and inclination to participate here.

Every time I join a thread I'm wondering if you're going to pop up, just posting for the sheer bloody hell of it with yet another disjointed self-pitying rambling pile of wank that has little or no bearing on the topic at hand.

Stop it.

Sleep on it... Take a deep breath and realize what I said. We are a self-sensure type of group... peer pressure type of thing... you have multiple people asking you to cease the action.

Please understand, we *ARE* being polite... this *IS* the FLAME QUARANTINE after all. Make sure you Keep you Asbestos clothes on. You do KNOW what a FLAME FORUM is for right?

We asked Ross to stop spewing across the board for a while... he has obliged... why can't you?

Your humor or cute comments are not funny to most of us, and your rambling on is like:
Someone shifting gears on a 2 mile race course with 32 turns and 32 elevation changes, for 500 laps.
It takes ALOT of shifting and it takes an extrememly long time to see the ending point.

And Just for the Record, I usually PREVIEW my postings 5 times, sometines completely re-write them, 4 times, in the process.

New We've tried

I'm one of a large number of people here who make a point of avoiding\r\neither reading or responding to your comments here wherever possible.\r\nI'm doing so now against my better judgement. We've dropped major clues\r\nfor years. Of the people here least likely to\r\ncriticise another's writing style, both Ashton and boxley have taken to\r\ncriticising you. Believe it or not, I've argued strongly to several\r\nfolks who would both bait and respond to you, not to, if not for your\r\nsake than for the rest of us.

\r\n\r\n

You've already been kicked from one IWE board for failing on three\r\nrequests to keep your loggorhea in check. You're a net detraction from\r\nthe community, despite our repeated attempts to help, and to the point\r\nof making more than one of us wonder if the clue has finally wandered\r\nfrom IWT. The only reason you're still allowed to post\r\nis that Scott's aversion to censoring and booting users is stronger than\r\nhis pathological disgust of your actions. This despite the fact that\r\nyou've cost both of us more admin time than the rest of the group\r\ncombined. Time that neither of us has any to spare, nor is compensated\r\nfor.

\r\n\r\n

Clues small, large, kind, rude, gentle, harsh, and any other variety,\r\nhave been dropped, lobbed, shot, delivered on silver platters, and\r\npackaged with offal. You simply refuse to change. You've been shown\r\nyears of tolerance. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

\r\n\r\n

I've written you off as a hopeless clinical case, and I'm not the\r\nonly one. If you're going to change, it's going to have to come from\r\nyou. It's not particularly you, it's your actions and behavior, and if\r\nyou make a consistent, sustained effort to clean up, you might regain or\r\nattain some stature in a year or two. You've really burnt\r\nthrough tons and tons of goodwill though, and it's going to take a hell\r\nof a long time to work your way back. This isn't a 30 day thing, it's\r\nnot a three month thing. It's years. Your fault.\r\nYour problem. Deal with it.

\r\n\r\n

And here's the reward for doing so: you'll be seen in a positive\r\nlight. Your comments listened to. Your questions answered. Your\r\nofferings appreciated. Your calls for help responded to.

\r\n\r\n

Otherwise you'll remain the outcast you are. Get help, Norm. I mean\r\nit and I wish you both recovery and wellness. But this ain't your\r\ntherapy group; especially not if you crap all over it.

\r\n\r\n

That's my last word here.

New Change will take some time
you cannot expect me to just change overnight, wish that I could but that is apparently not an option. It may take more than three years for me to get at a level that you deem as "Normal" or whatever.

I suppose I am "the problem" as you've stated. I am doing what I can to get better, but failing. Conscience efforts don't seem to work on my part, apparently. I must work on the unconscience parts, improve my memory, and try to get a better cognative system going. This may take years to get working, I sure cannot seem to do it in a few months as I tried. But you can see that in some cases I am doing better in some posts more than others. Yet I seem to slip right back into another mode in different posts that seem to upset people because I am apparently "babbling"? Can't win them all you know, I tried, I admit to having problems, and I am doing what I can to work on them.

Hopeless clinical case, maybe by your terms, but I think over years I can improve to a better poster.

Thanks to Scott for not deleting and banning my Orion account, I was going to just quit at one time, but I seem to keep on coming back for some reason. Mostly due to people I know here who are decent and I have no other way to contact or communicate with them. So if you want to get rid of me, I am not so easily gotten rid of that way. I will try to keep the number of my posts down and see if that helps any. Best I can do for now.
