New Responsibility without Authority
Digging through the belly of the Monster I found a position for "Business Architect" which has the following duties.

Duties:
. Evaluate service requests to assess technical and ROI feasibility
. Review and recommend solutions/best practices for maintenance of installed systems
. Develop and maintain a Project Charter template and Use-Case library
. Review project charters to enforce the adherence to standards and methodologies
. Provide support in the resolution of break/fix issues
. Use Microsoft 2000 or XP (2002) Office products, including MS/Project, Visio and Word on PC based computer systems.

Its my duty to use stuff that doesn't work?

Pass.

I think that it's extraordinarily important that we in computer science keep fun in computing. When it started out, it was an awful lot of fun. Of course, the paying customer got shafted every now and then, and after a while we began to take their complaints seriously. We began to feel as if we really were responsible for the successful, error-free perfect use of these machines. I don't think we are. I think we're responsible for stretching them, setting them off in new directions, and keeping fun in the house. I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun. Above all, I hope we don't become missionaries. Don't feel as if you're Bible salesmen. The world has too many of those already. What you know about computing other people will learn. Don't feel as if the key to successful computing is only in your hands. What's in your hands, I think and hope, is intelligence: the ability to see the machine as more than when you were first led up to it, that you can make it more.

New That's what drives heirarchal organizations
If you had the authority to fulfil your responsibilities, you probably wouldn't care about getting promoted. As it is, you think that after the promotion, you'll have the authority to fix what needs fixing. And maybe you will - for the things that used to be your responsibility. But you probably won't do it, because you will have a whole new set of responsibilities. And you will be real busy, becasue your new authority won't be quite enough for your new responsibilities.

New Ah - so *this* is why everybody gets promoted to their...
...level of incompetence!

Kewl; I always figured from the evidence around me that it was so, but could never quite figure out *why*... Now I know.

Thanks, Mike!

Your lies are of Microsoftian Scale and boring to boot. Your 'depression' may be the closest you ever come to recognizing truth: you have no 'inferiority complex', you are inferior - and something inside you recognizes this. - [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=71575|Ashton Brown]
New Subtle hint
It's a subtle hint about what is considered 'best practice' and high ROI.

Can't have a buisness architect that doesn't recommend the predetermined solution now could we?
