Still - a withdrawal of troops - even for the very best reasons: would require that Bush trust the populace to credit him as much for a wise decision as for: Winning Something and Being #1, like his daddy. For a few months.

Question is: does Bush trust the populace in this fashion? And/or - have the guts to leave his reelection to other than regular direct manipulation via staged displays?
