As a method to quickly end the war in Iraq it leaves a lot to be desired, It would be more useful to put the missiles on Tikrit but it is an old american tactic. Some bystanders might get caught in the blast, but that's not the objective. The objective is to take out strategic targets, and at the same time make all onlookers poop their pants. When they surrender, we'll give `em fresh undies. I think Republican Guard's barracks count as a strategic target. Likewise many government buildings. And of course power stations, communications and the like. Don't be standing near any of those, and you'll be safe, at least by middle eastern standards. The worst that can happen is Saddam jams the GPS signal, so they go a bit off course. And from what I gather, that's not likely to be very effective. Or how'bout you try Between 300 and 400 cruise missiles would fall on US each day for two consecutive days. It would be more than twice the number of missiles launched during the entire 40 days of the 1991 GulfWar. It was over 3 or 4 days of round the clock bombing: HE bombs and then incendiaries, alternating - keeping people in the shelters. The first firestorm was created, huge winds via the unprecedented chimney effect. Many cremated within the shelters - after dying from CO poisoning, as all the oxygen in the air was used by the fire. Practic for the entirely unstrategic Dresden raid of Kurt Vonnegut infamy. No way to compare - except that incendiaries are Not about surgical strikes. A firestorm? would imply genocidal levels of violence: with 2002 knowledge, IMO. Maybe we won't have to find out - if many more revelations of Admin fact-fudging occur.. a firestorm of new info? I.
