Re: Neither.
So it is NOT TRUE, and just the rest of the world and myself hallucinating the [link|http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2002/iraq/deployment.map/index.iraq.html|troops/carrier task forces deployed in/ard M.E.]? Or is the thought that [link|http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/01/25/1042911596206.html|"the US intends to shatter Iraq "physically, emotionally and psychologically" by raining down on its people as many as 800 cruise missiles in two days"], and I quote, The Pentagon battle plan aims not only to crush Iraqi troops, but also wipe out power and water supplies in the capital, Baghdad.
It is based on a strategy known as "Shock and Awe", conceived at the National Defense University in Washington, in which between 300 and 400 cruise missiles would fall on Iraq each day for two consecutive days. It would be more than twice the number of missiles launched during the entire 40 days of the 1991 GulfWar.
"There will not be a safe place in Baghdad," a Pentagon official told America's CBS News after a briefing on the plan. "The sheer size of this has never been seen before, never been contemplated before." NOT SCARY for you?

dont plan on being in downtown bahgdad anytime soon
so no it is not scary for me. As a method to quickly end the war in Iraq it leaves a lot to be desired, It would be more useful to put the missiles on Tikrit but it is an old american tactic. If you cant find the Indians that killed some whites go to where the Indians can be found (reservations) and wipe THEM out. thanx, bill

It's not wiping people out, guys.
These are precision weapons. It's not like carpet bombing. Some bystanders might get caught in the blast, but that's not the objective. The objective is to take out strategic targets, and at the same time make all onlookers poop their pants. When they surrender, we'll give `em fresh undies.
I think Republican Guard's barracks count as a strategic target. Likewise many government buildings. And of course power stations, communications and the like. Don't be standing near any of those, and you'll be safe, at least by middle eastern standards.
The worst that can happen is Saddam jams the GPS signal, so they go a bit off course. And from what I gather, that's not likely to be very effective.

Their death wasn't the goal.
So, killing innocent civilians is okay to achieve your goals?
I guess you and Saddam have something in common.

Re: It's not wiping people out, guys.
Is this the same logic that the 9/11 terrorists used. I mean, the targets were SYMBOLS, not people, no? Or how'bout you try Between 300 and 400 cruise missiles would fall on US each day for two consecutive days. It would be more than twice the number of missiles launched during the entire 40 days of the 1991 GulfWar.
"There will not be a safe place in Washington," an Iraqi official told America's CBS News after a briefing on the plan. "The sheer size of this has never been seen before, never been contemplated before."
And then we TALK about " NOT WIPING PEOPLE OUT". Sheesh!

400 missiles on bagdad/day != precision
They have another word for it: "carpet bombing"

Well OK
Mid '43, though it had been attacked since '42. It was over 3 or 4 days of round the clock bombing: HE bombs and then incendiaries, alternating - keeping people in the shelters.
The first firestorm was created, huge winds via the unprecedented chimney effect. Many cremated within the shelters - after dying from CO poisoning, as all the oxygen in the air was used by the fire. Practic for the entirely unstrategic Dresden raid of Kurt Vonnegut infamy.
No way to compare - except that incendiaries are Not about surgical strikes. A firestorm? would imply genocidal levels of violence: with 2002 knowledge, IMO.
Maybe we won't have to find out - if many more revelations of Admin fact-fudging occur.. a firestorm of new info?

Re: NOT SCARY for you?
Shoot. I thought you'd been playing along at home. Of course it isn't "scary" to any red-blooded American. Wars happen "over there" to people who don't believe in Our Savior(tm) Jesus Christ. They are heathens, aren't they? Does it matter if we get rid of some heathens? Not a bit to most of us.
I thought you knew that.
