Formosa, Matsu & Quemoy were in the news constantly in the 1950s & early 60s - constant shelling of the latter 2 from Mao & them Back to China. Being a soldier in either Quemoy or Matsu was a high stress no nonsense military assignment.

Reason he gets 4 points outta 10 is that Formosa is no longer the legal name of Tai -Wan (Tai = star or heavenly, Wan = bay)
