New Style naming in CSS...
What are the precedences in the naming conventions in CSS... I don't find a definitive answer.

I see any amount of names... some consistent naming but what I am really asking id the ".stylename" styles...

what is significant about that... I have set of CSS I want to use (all named) but before I use them I want to ake sure my naming convetion is good.

I do know of things like TD TABLE and such... so any good online references... besides [link|http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/|Meyer's] site?

New Use whatever makes sense to you.
The CLASS="" names start out as a completely blank namespace. Populate however you like.

New Where you might be plural for the group
You don't want one person to use Greek and Latin because "it is scientific" when nobody else around speaks either...

New More a question of what to avoid
You can, of course, use any convention you like. But too many times I've seen style namespaces which tend to follow the values of the first style sheet, instead of concentrating on the actual content ..erm.. context.

What I mean is, if you have a header box on a page that, in your first iteration, happens to be big and red, for heaven's sake don't go naming the element style "bigandredbox"--that defeats the purpose of separating content and style. Name it "mainheader" or something. That way, when They decide it should be blue, you don't have a conundrum of naming illogic. It's a maintainability thing.

Many fears are born of stupidity and ignorance -
Which you should be feeding with rumour and generalisation.

New We just went through that here
Our web "expert" wanted to use style names like "ArialTenPointBold" because that's the way he found to do it on Microsoft's web site.

It took me a while to convince him that this was a REALLY, REALLY STUPID naming convention, exactly for the reason you cite.

But I succeeded.

Brian BronsonAsking the rhetorical question: why are M$ sycophants so f*$%$#g dumb?
New why?
Because that's the way Microsoft wants them. That makes it easier to train them, and retrain them, and ...
Have fun,

The Charles Bronson movie about Russian brainwashed suicide spies: [link|http://us.imdb.com/Title?0076804|IMDB link]

Maybe M$ literature includes this brainwashing. Then, when certain M$ key words and phrases are uttered, their brain switches off and otherwise normal people spout meaningless M$ crapola.

Or maybe Bill Gates has a reality distortion field that puts Steve Jobs' to shame!
