Got an e-mail response from my esteemed Senator
today. To the e-mail I sent him before the vote on Iraq. Spent some time crafting my answer. Sent it out. Turns out, "reply-to" in the Senator's e-mail is set to a big bit bucket in Congress - an address that goes to no one in particular and is destined to bounce. If there is a way to say "shut up" any better, I don't know what it is.

Response from my Senator John Edwards (D-NC) was no better.
It was snail mail and a different issue - some Federal wetlands on NC coast used by migrating birds. Response was non-committal the net of which is "I got your mail".
They may just categorize and count these things.

Re: Response from my Senator John Edwards (D-NC)
I got a real letter from Gephardt when I wrote him about H1B. He simply repeated to me what he was telling the cameras of the reporters. At least he was consistent.
I'll try again soon. See if he remembers.

Received worse when I snail-mailed Proxmire (D-Wis)
Many moons ago.
His response amounted to: 1. I'm not on the committee that handles that, so I can't do anything about it. 2. I'm retiring, so don't make me work.
With that kind of attitude, why was he even in the Senate?

Remember, people in 1900 didn't know what an atom was. They didn't know its structure.
They also didn't know what a radio was, or an airport, or a movie, or a television, or a computer, or a cell phone, or a jet, an antibiotic, a rocket, a satellite, an MRI, ICU, IUD, IBM, IRA, ERA, EEG, EPA, IRS, DOD, PCP, HTML, internet. interferon, instant replay, remote sensing, remote control, speed dialing, gene therapy, gene splicing, genes, spot welding, heat-seeking, bipolar, prozac, leotards, lap dancing, email, tape recorder, CDs, airbags, plastic explosive, plastic, robots, cars, liposuction, transduction, superconduction, dish antennas, step aerobics, smoothies, twelve-step, ultrasound, nylon, rayon, teflon, fiber optics, carpal tunnel, laser surgery, laparoscopy, corneal transplant, kidney transplant, AIDS... None of this would have meant anything to a person in the year 1900. They wouldn't know what you are talking about.
