Evan Bacon
I had a dream about camp. I was 11 years old. I had a friend there named Evan Bacon.
I woke up and Googled him.
He's a newscaster in Florida now. I emailed and confirmed it was him.
Wierd.
Anydy track down really old friends like that?
Anybody in FL who has seen him?

Holy engrams, Batman!
I glimpse..
DreamWorks your ISP with an interface you Won't Believe . . .
I found my HS Chem teacher by a combo of web and his last school locale, ~5 years ago. Fortunately he was glad to meet, and I was able to thank him for lots of stuff.. (Still, we may all yearn for that lost privacy and anonymity, sooner than we think ;-)

Had it happen with a case of mistaken identity...
A few years ago someone wrote me out of the blue and said, "Are you the Ben Tilly that I went caving with in Tennesee about 7 years ago?" "Ummm...no..."
So Google doesn't always get the right answer...
Cheers, Ben

I confirmed
There are lots of people with the same names. But his bio showed him growing up in the town that I remembered. So I emailed him and really confirmed it.

I got cantacted once asking if I was the Doug Marker who
went to some school in PA.
Later I did a search & identified 8 or so Doug Markers who had eamil addresses. Goole shows up about 6 of us (but without peer, mostly me <grin>).
Cheers

Sorry but no
I haven't had that much luck. I lost contact with many friends of mine over the years. Many with email accounts that now bounce, and they never gave me the new ones. They may be trying to email to old accounts of mine, found on Google, which I no longer use becuase the ISP went down, or I switched ISPs. I did email them my new address, but they may have lost it or misplaced it. Also some like usa.net require that I pay them a large sum of money to keep the account active.
But somewhere, in Google, must me my current email address. Maybe one day they will find it, or I will find theirs?
One friend, Chris Roys, I have been trying to reach for years now since a friend of ours died. I tried to stay in touch with him, but his work and home email addresses just bounce now. I only have his Hotmail account, which took and didn't bounce, but he may not be reading it. I even still have his old PGP Public key. I must have like a dozen friends like him, which just vanished off the face of the Earth in the past four years or more.

Various ways
Lately I've used [link|http://www.classmates.com|Classmates] to get ahold of some old friends. You can sign up for free and register your name to the various schools you've attended, as well as view other people who've registered. However, in order to get their contact info you'll have to pay. They've gotten better too, originally they only tracked a single high school, yet I went to two. Now they track ALL your schools.
I've googled a few friends, and have had lots of old friends tracked me down(they tend to google on SpiceWare).

Classmates is a rip-off
One of our alums is a comp guy and decided he liked the idea of classmates but didn't want to pay for it. So he bought a membership and emailed everybody that he'd done a clone for just our school. Its very cool. And free. Except for the scanning of yearbooks - he could stop that anytime.
But I've recently been in touch with people I haven't seen in 20 years. Kinda fun.

Re: Classmates is a rip-off
But they allow you to post on forums as a member. As a non-paying member you cannot even do that, but you can read them. It gives you a place to talk about your high school, work, college, etc. Even meet some people you knew in the military. Problem is that not everyone uses it and they spam the heck out of you if you do use it.

Yes there was a point there
I was giving my experience in it, saying that in some cases it is useful, but in others it is not so useful.
Or maybe you would have me say something else?

That would be true for everything ever
and thus non-informative.
Just noise.
I would prefer less noise.

I dunno
considering how often I moved, by the time I was 25 I'd lived 25 places(army brat), tracking down separate "classmate sites" for all the schools I attended would be a major pain.
