Well, that's definitely not good.
The soundcard is almost certainly something like a Crystal Audio SB clone, so the IRQ should be 5, the MIDI address 330, FM at 388, the SB compatibility address at 220. You want the soundcard at the higher priority IRQ. Put the netcard at 10 or 11.
If a machine just freezes when you are installing a do-it-yourself system, the chances of it being hardware failure are, to quote WC Fields, practically nil. It's an IRQ conflict. Port contention will not kill the machine, just the device(s).
