etc.

So, I updated my sources.list as such:
\nbd00402:/etc/network# cat ../apt/sources.list \ndeb http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free contrib\ndeb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US unstable/non-US main contrib non-free\ndeb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/ ../project/experimental main\ndeb http://security.debian.org/ unstable/updates main contrib non-free\n\n# Uncomment if you want the apt-get source function to work\ndeb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free\ndeb-src http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US unstable non-US\n

And got the same (more or less) crud as above when I did apt-get update.

New chroot Debian install, Perl LOCALE problems

I've seen LOCALE issues with Perl on several systems in several contexts (Debian and other distros), though I'm not sure how they've been resolved. I'm also curious that these are showing up during the installation. Could be you didn't do the language config right.

\r\n\r\n

I'm playing with User Mode Linux (UML) currently, have a disk image that's the base tarball unzipped, will see if I can't standardize the chroot instructions further. This involves getting more UML functionality than I've got currenlty, mostly networking.

New Documentation change requested:
There is no language configuration portion. ;-)

It's listed in the "things we are going to do" part, but not in the actual "here we are doing things" part.

New in your chrooted area do you have access to a stripped /etc
dir with where to find the nescessities for resolving hosts? Also is Locale being specifically set when calling the install via a script? I know this appears to be Karsten specific but like to list the usual suspects.

New Re: in your chrooted area do you have access to a stripped /
Good call on the host resolve; I'll check that when I'm at the machine tomorrow. That's probably it, the more I think about it.

"when calling the install"... I am the install. :-) See [link|http://kmself.home.netcom.com/Linux/FAQs/DebianChrootInstall.html|chroot Debian Install From A Booted System mini-HOWTO] for details.

New I hadn't done the language config yet.
There's a config I have to run for that. It wasn't the locale stuff that was screwing up so much as the other bits; the locale messages are just annoyances.

New Some answers:
1) Running 'kbdconfig' instead of "dpkg-reconfigure console-data" seems to work.

2) I missed the resolv.conf step. Did the hostname and the interfaces though. :-)

I still haven't gotten the locale settings sorted, though. Is there an apt-get to perform to get a particular locale, like en_US?
