"cypherpunks/cypherpunks", like "iwethey/iwethey" but older.
*We* didn't come up with the generic-ID idea as a protest against overly-snooping site registration procedures, not by a long shot.
Sometimes site owners (or their Webmasters) deleted such generic IDs, but the "cypherpunk community" just created new ones... Turned into a battle of stamina -- each Webmaster on his own, against a HORDE of anonymous 'Net surfers; how would *you* think that turned out in the end?
That's why I said a while back that creating the "iwethey/iwethey" user ID on the NYT, for example, was unneccesary: I remember back on SleazyBoard how someone (Greg?) tipped us off to "cypherpunks4/cypherpunks(4?)"; when that didn't work any more, recently, I just incremented it to find out that "cypherpunks6/cypherpunks(6?)" still works.

No, I believe May of 1996...
And I knew fray, I was just being ummm Me?!
I came in after Sandy Reed Had Annouced this to the world and gotten all the justification she needed to show it as a fraud. I believe it was actually Ed Foster and an E-Mail to his Gripe Column on "Software Quality" does it do what they say it does? or something of the like. I think it was the first one of that blend he did.
He specifically invited me to join the discussion he was sponsoring. I never really did say anything until I flamed Ross, and he flamed me back about me being an "Anally Retentive" System Admin. And he'd find a way around MY stuff if he worked where I did.
But, I can see things have changed... err well maybe not... I'm still Anally retentive... Judge Ross fer your self! We are all alot of fun here. I still get a big kick out of CRC, malraux, Bryce (yes I like beating someone who keeps coming back)... Beep, BOFH, and so on.
It makes me smile thinking about the wonderful "discussions" we've had in the past about things, Religion, Theology, Mathematics, Technology, Politics, Suppression of Innovation, blah blah blah.
I really missed these people we call IWETHEY, after I gave up on Sleazyboard. BTW, I STILL get e-mail from them. My 3 year account I used twice (well maybe more) still is there. I changed the e-mail address wayback when).
So to us all, we are definately a group that is dysfunctionally together. ;)
