Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Yeah... So, uh, what do you mean "new to the US"?
The soon-to-be-employed-again mr F writes:
This is a for real thing. Apparently, has been since 1997 or 1998...
Exactly -- in fact, I'm fairly sure we've discussed this before, ages ago. (On SleazyBoard, or even before that? Can't tell.)

So how can it be "new" to you -- surely, the GPL wouldn't have allowed it to be released to everyone *but* Americans??? Or is it that this is the same thing that used to be known as ADABAS, and the name change passed everybody by? That's the only explanation I can see.

New No, NOT SAP, but "ESS-AYAH-PEE-DEE-BEE"
Say it... SAY IT!
ESS  ---> S\nAYAH ---> A\nPEE  ---> P\nDEE  ---> D\nBEE  ---> B

Same company, different Product. Much easier to use and implement.

New Eh? Reread the 1st subject. No "the" there. :-)
New Ah, OK. But even that: Re-read MY post, SleazyBoard etc! :-)
New You must be mistaken.
It doesn't show up in ezboard's fine [link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/BBSForum.showForumSearch?boardName=iwethey|search] tool...

(At least not in the half-a-dozen fora I searched.)

Cheers,

New Even before that - the original IWE?
Some of us have the archives... But no, never mind, I *am* probably mistaken -- if I really did recognise it, then it must have been from somewhere else. Otherwise, someone else besides me would have piped up and said they remember it too, by now. :-)

New Sure...
Holding out on us... huh?

I see how you are... I am just glad my mother never DID meet up with you...

I see it now, must've been cause I never saw your face 'till recently...

I pray the mother of your kids has the looks... ;)

Cause you look as bad as I do! Why do you think I wear a mask... ;)

New Yeah, I'm a pretty cunning linguist; that must be it!
New Holding out, me? Never! That is...
...not intentionally.

But it's happened before, that someone posts some "new" discovery, and I'm forced to realise that what I thought was common knowledge here was actually something I'd ought to have posted, months earlier... Idunno how the fuck that happens; I pick something up from Slashdot or the Inq or wherever, I guess, and then think it was from here. A mixed-up mix-up by yours truly, the great mixer-upper.

As for the mother having the loox (yes she does! :-) , judge for yourself at [link|http://www.rake-sali.fi/helen-riska.html|http://www.rake-sali.fi/helen-riska.html] (a link you could have found at my crappy single-page Web-site, the address of which should be obvious if you see my pic).

So why didn't *you* ever send *me* that jpeg of your Mom?!?

New You don't have "Wheel of Fortune" over there, do you?
Because once you take out all the vowels it would look like
H--st-v--n, m-n-p--l-s--n j- m--l-nk--nt--s--n ty-h-n- k--l--
Or do you guys spin for vowels and have to buy the consonants?

PS: I have no idea what I just quoted, but am simply impressed by the vowel/consonant ratio.

PPS: Speaking of new things, has anyone heard about this new database? Somthing called Interbase or something like that I think.

New "My challenging, interesting and many-sided job consists of"
Or, "Haastavaan, monipuoliseen ja mielenkiintoiseen työhöni kuuluu [...]"
Because once you take out all the vowels it would look like
H--st-v--n, m-n-p--l-s--n j- m--l-nk--nt--s--n ty-h-n- k--l--
Or do you guys spin for vowels and have to buy the consonants?
Oh, do we EVER have WoF here! In Finnish it's called "Onnenpyörä", which is a pretty exact translation of the original name.

Or rather, DID we ever -- I think they cancelled it sometime this last spring or so... But before that, as you can see [link|http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:oBFr0NYMejEC:www.freenet.hut.fi/ohjelmatiedot/t03/99/13/1.html+onnenpy%C3%B6r%C3%A4+mtv3&hl=en&ie=UTF-8|here], it had been aired over a thousand times (closer to 1,500, considering that the 1,000th-show milestone was three years before it got cancelled?) Here's [link|http://www.saunalahti.fi/~lasseh/onnenpyora.shtml|some statistics] on the game (from some guy on the same ISP as I, BTW), and here's [link|http://www.auraviihde.fi/porkka/|the moderator] or WeverTF he's called -- and doesn't HE look like a slimy bastard!?!

And yes, we spin -- spun? -- for consonants and bought vowels, just like you. You missed one in your transcription, though: In pretty much every imaginable language *except* English, 'y' is a vowel too.

Oh, and only now that I quoted your post and started typing in the solution do I realize that I didn't have to solve it; that's from Anki's work page, right? D'oh, me! Oh well, now you can check for yourself and see how I did.

PS: I have no idea what I just quoted, but am simply impressed by the vowel/consonant ratio.
What you just quoted (See? You *quoted* it! D'oh, d'oh, me! :-) was: Blather.

I really don't think Anki wrote that herself, actually...

PPS: Speaking of new things, has anyone heard about this new database? Somthing called Interbase or something like that I think.
Fuckyouverymuch, too! :-)

New Don't recall the sleazyboard conversation...
...but I have seen mention [link|http://slashdot.org/search.pl?query=SAPDB|several times on slashdot] for any who want to wade through the noise to find some decent comments here and there. The main knock I've seen against SAPDB is that the code base is rotted in areas (hard to maintain).
