Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I have noticed 'LOCKED' showing up on a number of threads
Who is responsible for locking, and why are threads being locked?
I am assuming that a locked thread can not be extended past the lock. Is this correct?
Is this implimented as a pest control mechanism?

Just curious,
Hugh
New Surmise
A subtle hint re extending a familiar refrain into too-familiar responses perhaps? (One can if one Must - append to initial post). Shrinks fail; why shouldn't we?

While I'd be among the last to 'trust the Powers that be' generally, believe that Our Leader has by now demonstrated utmost discretion and reluctance to use even that.

Anyway, I'm game for the occasional..

Ashton
New You can't reply to *that* post, 'coz new thread's been born.
Obviously, the whole purpose of moving a sub-thread elsewhere with the "Create as new topic" (possibly in another forum) function would be defeated if you got replies *to the place-holder* that directs you to that newly created topic (i.e, below the placeholder in the original thread, in stead of in the new one).

Those place-holders are the only posts I've seen that have been locked; are you sure you've seen any other kind? (At a guess, was it my three replies to Norm earlier today you saw? I pre-redirected those to the Flame forum.)

Mechanisation

As our souls are slowly stolen
The wheels of progress keep steamrolling
Mechanisation melts our minds
To drive the furnace that drives us blind. -- [link|http://www.vergenet.net/~conrad/poetry/mechanisation.html|© Conrad Parker, 1993]
New Two uses:
One being the extension of a subthread into a new thread, as Christian explained.

I locked a number of the Orion/Stryfe threads as well in order to do some damage control.

New Thanks, all... got it.
New Orion\\Stryfe
What is the deal with that. Someone told me that people here were harassing someone named Orion. Is that how you deal with it, lock the posts?
New Hmmm...
Hi Norm. Quit. EOT.

New Considering that this was posted from the Stryfe's dial-up
I'd say you probably know what the deal is, Norm.
