Latest big fish: Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri captured alive
Enough petulant whining and spin control. [link|http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/11/21/alqaeda.capture/index.html|Here's some actual news]
Excerpt:
Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the suspected mastermind behind the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole that killed 17 sailors, was arrested earlier this month, officials said. He is considered one of the highest ranking al Qaeda leaders captured in the international war on terrorism.
He is of similar rank to two other captured al Qaeda operatives -- operations chief Abu Zubaydah and Ramzi Binalshibh, believed to be a main organizer of the September 11 attacks.

Brow-wrinkling twist
If this guy is such a big supporter of al Qaeda and bin Laden, why is he (apparently) singing like a bird to his interrogators?

Some different excerpts
Frome the same [link|http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/11/21/alqaeda.capture/index.html|article] linked by Marlowe This one should make you go "Hmm..." "Eventually, if these arrests keep going at this rate, they will start getting some of the real top people"... The next ones are a little bit the of history of the "top Al Qaeda operative" Born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia Tell me again why Iraq is such a danger to us. Like other top al Qaeda officials, including bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri, he was one the "Afghan Arabs" who fought against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, officials said. (emphasis added) Another wacko that was trained, supported and abandoned by us?

Fascinating.
So, when one of their people is ARRESTED it makes the news. They even include his name.
Yet we still have all of those "al Queda" terrorists that we captured during the invasion.
Yep, once again Marlowe supplies the proof that his support of the invasion was based on ignorance.
The BEST way to capture terrorists is with good, old-fashioned police work.

Police works better...
...when the police force of the country has some semblance of cooperation. Note, that even though Yemen has a large contingent of lawless territories (much like Pakistan), the national government has been helpful at some level. The problem with such law enforcement schemes that might have been erected in Afghanistan is that not only was the Taliban government uncooperative, but they were they were heavily involved with terrorism.
So the question back to you: How can police work be effective when the police in question refuse to cooperate?

Those buildings were not in Afghanistan.
If the police of a country are not cooperative, then they are not cooperative.
And we should issue travel advisories for those countries so our citizens do not go there.
But there is a small detail I believe you continue to miss.
The World Trade Center was located in New York City.
And the police in New York City do cooperate in the apprehension of criminals and terrorists.
If the terrorists stayed in the countries that supported them, that would be fine.
They can only hurt us when they LEAVE those countries and travel to OUR countries.

Not the use of the word "country" in the original post.
[link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=64645|"Police works better... ...when the police force of the country has some semblance of cooperation.]
You do know that those hijackers were living in this country for a while prior to the attack. Don't you?
You are, of course, aware that New York City is located in the state of New York which is located this country. Aren't you?

I note a shift in focus.
Now it seems that you are no longer arguing about whether a police force would allow us to arrest terrorists, but whether the police force has a past history of being adept at arresting criminals.
Would you care to amend the original position then?

But that you are unable to actually say it.

take it any way you want, unlike others I will admit to
being wrong and will bluntly, without sideswiping, admit it. I am not wrong in this case in anyway shape or form, you however are absolutly wrong for attempting to claim that I am. thanx, bill

Was that supposed to be self-explanatory?

Ever on the lookout for new concepts, I managed to make it almost 50% through that page before quiting. I gave up at the line:
"What about his uncle's children?" demanded Greyboar. "D'you want I should burke the whole brood?" Sarcasm, this\ufffdGreyboar drew the line at throttling sprouts, save the occasional bratling.
There is some linkage between bad fantasy writing and your posts in this thread?

Re: "Enough petulant whining and spin control"
Just what was that Maelowesque remark supposed to tell us ???
Were you looking in a mirror when you wrote it (my best guess). Why did you bother trying to enlighten us ?
