Casualty of OOP
Found in my inbox:
Thanks for the interesting web site. I gave up programming for a living about 5 years ago, because it was becoming obvious that everyone wanted OOP, and I wanted nothing to do with it. The claims made were ludicrous, and the paradigm seemed hopelessly stretched to fit any of my usual business-type applications. And worst of all, I couldn't make use of any of my vast libraries of reusable functions and subroutines; they all would have to be recoded into objects. Reuse of code is a matter of good programming, not an invention of OOP! I also expect the massive amount of code-bloat we see today is because programmers are unwilling to touch old objects, since they are unable to decipher what they are doing. At least with p/r, you had a chance of following the logic of a program. Until the pendulum swings back the other way, things are only going to get worse.

love this!
I also expect the massive amount of code-bloat we see today is because programmers are unwilling to touch old objects, since they are unable to decipher what they are doing. now that doesnt bother me but I am a debugger type not a coder and expect to crawl into stuff to see why it isnt working or (re)code around it. For you mainstream programming folks, does the above quote ring true? Inquiring minds want to know. thanx, bill

I, for one, have disassembled ROMs to figure out
what the hell was going on with no idea of how the code was originally generated (i.e. reverse engineered stuff).

Kind of like that massive amount of code-bloat in procedural code becauase programmers are unwilling to touch old subroutines, since they are unable to decipher what they are doing...

Fitting in this case
...since the main reason given for foregoing programming is that he doesn't want to touch all those old subroutines and functions that he wrote umpteen years ago.

I prefer spehgetti p/r to spehgetti OO
True consultants can write crappy code (job security) using ANY paradigm.

I'm astonished....
I didn't think trailer parks would support a decent Italian eatery... Kitchens I've been in had different kinds of starch. Sauces were numbered in a couple though. You can fill our a menu by using variants of a sauce on different macaroni or by switching sides. *GOOD* places actually have varying specials dependent on availabilty of ingredients, and use different pastas for filler. I've never been asked for "spag up" in my life. God but I must be so sheltered... Oh well...

boilup a 5 gallon pail of noodles then rinse to get the startch out. The spag sauce and the taco sauce is the same except you hit the taco sauce with seasoning before nuking hand into noodles place on plate, then ladle sauce on top.A quick zap and fine eytie food is ready for serving. thanx, bill

Don't bash trailer parks because
I might have to live in one soon. I think I will paste a giant image of my college degree on one side and my honor certificate on the other. (It was not awarded for spelling I wud note.)
On a bright note, it is easier to track hamsters in one.
