Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Bummer, dude. ;-)
I've never used the G400 in dual mode even on Winders. Figured I might get spoiled and actually give up OS/2 (nah..... not really).

Does anyone know if Linux (aka in this case as Mandrake 9.0) has dual display capabilities for the G400?
New Per this review, yep

You can get these drivers by going to the Matrox web site at: [link|http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/latest/home.cfm|http://www.matrox.co...s/latest/home.cfm]. Both cards work well under XFree86 3.3.6 and XFree86 4.0. There are some issues that are being resolved as I type this between the latest mga drivers and XFree86 4.0.2 particularly if you're using the 2.4.0 kernel. Matrox's support is excellent, so be patient and wait for the update notice on their web site.
...
Setting up the card is pretty straight forward. Matrox provides detailed instructions with the drivers. Let me say right off the bat, you better follow them.

We were able to get the G400 to work in dual-head mode using the mga 1.00.03 version of the mga drivers and XFree86 4.0 using the xinerama extension.
I suspect this - The other cards, the G200-MMS Dual ... use one chip per monitor, thus increasing the cost considerably - might be related to why my older card isn't supported.

New Hmmm....
Reading through the [link|ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/linux/2002/lnx200notes.txt|release notes], I see configuration information and specific mention of the G200. You might want to take another look.

I'm certainly no expert, but it looks like you should be able to get something going. For example this excerpt.....

DualHead and G200 MMS support
=============================

To add DualHead support for the G400/G450/G550-based graphics
hardware and multi-display support for G200 MMS products, the
following sections of the "XF86Config" file need to be modified:

- "Device" section
- "Screen" section
- "ServerLayout" section

.... would indicate to me that it's possible. YMMV
New don't have Linux on that box
I have Linux on my laptop and my mp3 playing iopener. About the only time I boot the laptop into linux is to rip CDs for playback on the iopener.
