Welcome to IWETHEY!

New No personal experience, but I'll yammer anyway....
I think the biggest minus for non-HP or other non-big name laser printers is - what about the toner cartridges?

I've got a NEC SilentWriter 95 which has worked well for many years. But very few places have cartridges for it, so they're expensive.

Does your local office superstore have cartridges for it? Your favorite mail-order house? What are the prices like? Generally, you pay more for HP printers but their cartridges are ubiquitous and there's some competition on price.

I'm partial to PostScript printers myself, so I haven't considered a really cheap laser.

Oh, also beware of WinPrinters which use the host CPU for the rasterization, etc. Much slower than a "real" laser with its own intelligence.

CNet has a review of inexpensive lasers [link|http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-2645882-8-5700867-1.html?tag=t5|here].

As with everything, there are plusses and minuses. :-)

HTH.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Cheap lasers?
What a quaint idea...

Seriously, though, it's probably more cost-effective to get a decent inkjet, as the toner cartridges will be expensive - and what happens if you need a new fuser or developer?

Also note Another Scott's (you GOT a surname? :-p) comments on availability.
