New Why they worded it that way, I'll never know
"Workers who sat in front of computer screens"....

Oh crimey. It's not sitting in front of a computer screen, it's sitting (relatively) immobile in one position for hours at a time, perhaps poor ergonomics between monitor and keyboard, probably further complicated by poorly fitting or seating chairs. And, of course, some people are just more sensitive to the quality of a monitor (and of course companies all say to themselves, "hey, why buy an expensive 17" Sony Trinitron one when we can get this 15" Samsung one for $150?")

Do something similar in almost *any* line of work, whether or not a computer is involved, and you'll get similar effects.

The Evil Computers Strike Again....

New I should go into "journalism"
I certainly couldn't do any worse than spit out the same pre-digested press releases as these media hacks.
New Actually..
..I was just discussing "computer neck" with the receptionist. My head is killing me and I know it's from staring at this thing all day.

Web work is really bad because of all the visual details.

Programming is more like reading.

New Vary your position.
This advice works for other situations also.
New Indeed.
Take a break. Walk around the room. Even a regular stretch in your chair is good.

I happen to have realized that the arms on most office chairs are too high for me. So I either take them off or find a chair without arms. Practical ergonomics. :-)

Wade.

"Ah. One of the difficult questions."

Tasteful, translucent, understated...it was the most charming, pleasant system crash I've ever experienced.
