Is this possible?
Having only recently started using and implementing some of the new features Scott has provided, I am wondering if the following feature is possible.
I read a relatively small number of forums compared to most. It gets to be a pain in the ass to have to scroll down the list of forums to get to what I want to read.
The feature of only listing those forums with new posts is very helpful, but still leaves me with a long list if things I still have to take the time of clicking on "Mark Read" buttons to get them removed from my sight.
Now, I suppose I could just read the forums I want and then click on "Mark All Forums Read", but that can still leave me with a long list to scroll through several times to get to where I want to go.
What I'd like to have is a way to either remove those forums from my sight permanently, or a way to click on a check box next to each forum I don't want to read, then hit a "Mark All Checked Forums Read" button to get them out of my way in one fell swoop.
Any thoughts?

Everything is a SMOP.
Simple Matter Of Programming.
Request noted. Thank you, drive through. We have to make a new batch of fries, so this might take a few...

Possible short term fix?
Just mark the forums you don't like as having been read some time in the way distant future. Something like:
http://z.iwethey.org/forums/actions/forum/markForumRead?forumid=3&markstamp=2099-12-31+08%3a24%3a28.00
Just substitute the forumids for those you are not interested in.
Haven't tested it, but it might do the trick?

It seems like it would be "simple" to extend that idea
to scoring/killfiling.
E.g. Some newsreaders have scorefiles. You can give + scores of various ranks to items you really want to be sure you'll read (replies to your posts, favorite authors, favorite threads, etc.), - scores of various ranks to items you want to be sure you won't be bothered with (MMF, despised authors, trolls, periodic FAQs you've read dozens of times, etc.). A post has to have a non-negative score to be shown by default.
I know that twit filters and the like have been requested here. I don't think they're needed yet myself, but if you get around to implementing them, please consider a scoring system rather than a simple binary show/no-show system.
Each reader could assign a score to each poster/thread/forum and just as you check to see whether the message should be displayed by the reader's timestamp of the forum, you'd check the reader's scorefile to see if a post should be displayed.
Hmmm. It might get a little server-processor intensive. :-(
Hmmm....
Hey, Scott! How's that NNTP interface to zIWeThey coming?!
(It doesn't seem fair to ask you to reinvent the wheel so that we can have scorefiles here if it'll bring the server to its knees. Scoring really should be a client-side process, IMO.)
Or maybe, through the magic of SQL, you could have a persistent query attached to a user login (that would be changed only when the scorefile changed) so that the decision on what post to show really wouldn't be that much different from what's required now? Is something like that reasonable (I know nothing about SQL)?
Cheers, Scott. (Who started typing before he reached the end of the thought, but decided to post this anyway to feed someone's LPRD addiction tonight. Enjoy. :-)

And exactly how do you suggest I know which forum relates to each forumid? That's like taking pot shots in utter darkness with a 357 Magnum. You and Scott wanna stand in the same room with me? ;-)
If the forumids follow the same way they're listed on the main forums page, then I could see your point. Are they listed in the same order as their ids, Scott?

Ever done this?
Hover your mouse over the forum link. Read the forumid in the URL.
Alternatively, just visit the forum and look at the URL in the address bar.

May get reset?
If you were to hit the "Mark All Forums Read" from the main forum page. That is, I suspect that the mark all forums read probably resets the last read time for all forums - not looking for whether they are future dated.

Thought the same thing...
So I decided to never hit it. :-)

Yeah, but
I still want the option to remove forums from my sight permanently. There's a whole category I'd like to get rid of and another 8 or so sprinkled here and there.
