What made you think
What made you think those games are for kids? Even for consoles the age of the average gamer is over 20 now.
It's unfortunate that just like R movies, a lot will end up in the hands of kids. Parents need to learn to pay more attention, as it's no longer safe to just grab a game because you kid wants it. But if it's the violence part you object to it never really was.
The first game I played that got parents upset was called 'firebug' for the Apple II. As the name suggests, you played the part of a pyromanic burning down buildings, while trying to avoid getting fried yourself.

Is an airplane a toy? If so, I'm one.

What's the gross lift capability? If somewhere less than a hamster, you have your answer.
(PS - I find gloating to be distasteful. If you keep that attitude, you'll end up as a hole in the prairie.)

Everybody
I don't know a single adult who plays with toys. Do you?
Everybody I know resonably well has some form of toys, no matter if it's a big diamater telescope, a sports car, gun collection, warhammer minitures army, MTG deck set, computer game collection, board game collection or doll collection.
I think everybody should have a form of recreation that involves doing something, not just sitting around watching or reading.

Re: Everybody
A toy is something aimed at minors. Video games are aimed at minors. Airplanes, telescopes, high-end computers etc. are not aimed at minors.

A toy is something you play with.

Things change
Computer games where once largly something for kids, but that is no longer true.
If that means makes you want to come up with some other word for them now beside toys, go ahead.

I know many
including myself. Never heard "the difference between a man and a boy is the price of his toys"? According to [link|http://myphlip.pearsoncmg.com/cw/mpviewie.cfm?vieid=1465&vbcid=1695|this], the average gamer is now 28 years old, so it shouldn't be a surprise that game makers are adding adult titles to their line up. Video gaming is big business. In fact, it has surpassed Hollywood in the amount of entertainment revenue it generates. A research firm, IDC, reported that the total domestic hardware and software sales for interactive games totaled $8.2 billion in 2000, whereas U.S. movie box office receipts were below that at $7.75 billion in the United States.
According to the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA), an industry trade group based in Washington D.C., about 60 percent of Americans - or 145 million people - now play computer or video games. It isn't just for teenagers anymore; it has blossomed into a mainstream national pastime, with the average age of a video gamer being 28.
