Post #5,443 by deSitter 8/16/01 2:29:35 PM Reply	Sadly No Laser beams spread, and cheap ones spread rapidly, so no joy. But like you said, it's a poetic idea, to try to touch the Moon again. Are people missing Apollo? FWIW, those little pocket lasers have an effective range of up to a few thousand meters, depending on the frequency of the light.

There is no such thing as telekinesis - if there were, the energy of the crowd on that beach would have thrown the launch way off. Miss Apollo? I was literaly in tears on my lunch break today thinking about it. We wont't do anything that worthwhile again in my lifetime. We'll talk about Mars. We won't do anything. Our civilization went as far as it ever will in Apollo 13 (the swing around the Moon went farther than the ones that landed) and it's all downhill from there on. At a key point, all these tens of thousands of mirrors were used to focus the Sun on the referee, who suddenly found himself at the focal point of an enormous concave mirror, rather like an unfortunate ant underneath a magnifying glass. I don't remember the name of the story.
