New Windows Remote Access software
Yeah yeah, we use PCAnywhere right now at work to access our servers and workstations remotely.

Any open sourced, free, shareware, or PD alternatives?

I would like something like Terminal Terver, Citrix Winframe/Metaframe. Would be nice if it also ran on a CE or PalmOS device as a client/terminal. I like Citrix as it has a Java client, which I assume can be run on PalmOS with the right Java VM?

New VNC
Info can be found [link|http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/faq.html|here].
New Or better yet

Faster, better than VNC....it goes on all our head stack measuring machines as part of the standard install (WinNT 4.0; our custom device driver is still unstable on W2K).

IIRC, thanks to Peter W for pointing me to TightVNC
New Second TightVNC, alternatives:
[link|http://www.radmin.com/default.html|RAdmin] is a tool we use, particularly for beyond-the-LAN access to systems, as it integrates an encrypted session with the remote access. It also autodetects connection speed and sets connection properties (largely image compression) accordingly. It only runs under Windows. Cost is $35 per remote/locale tuple, with bulk licensing possible. By "remote/local", I mean that one license is good for one local and one remote installation. This gets a bit squeeky in a star-model, where one workstation provides remote access to many desktops.

All this can be accomplished with TightVNC, though with more work and additional alternatives (eg: an ssh client/server).

What part of "gestalt" don't you understand?

New Re: Windows Remote Access software
Ugh. Quel merde.

VNC can bore through a firewall. Very reasonable performance over a phone line.
