New Smart phone experiences?
I'm considering getting a new phone with CDMA 1x capability (Sprint's 2.5G network). One nice thing is that you can use SMS (although apparently there may be quirks -- I'll to find some knowledgeable people to talk to before I make any decisions. Sprint's web site lacks detailed information), AOL IM, and e-mail (although may be quirks with POP3 on the cell phones).

If I end up doing more text messaging, a regular phone will be annoying. The two options I can think of are:
1. Get regular phone (e.g. LG-5350, Samsung A400) and hook it up to my Clie. (BTW, these phones can be programmed in Java2ME (MIDP)).
2. Get the Treo 300.

So I'm interested in comments from anyone with experience hooking a Palm to a cell phone, or using a Palm-based smart phone. (There's no way I'll get a WinCE based one).

New Samsung SPH-I300
I've got a [link|http://www.samsungelectronics.com/mobile_phone/wireless_terminals/cdma_pcs/sph_i300_features.html|SPH-I300]. It's a combination Palm and Cell Phone. While I've only had it a couple months, it's now "old" in that the newer phones are faster(I believe that for data mine tops out at 14.4K while the new protocol tops out at 144K).

The phone includes a web browser that can access most of the internet(though the experience is limiting due to a resolution of 160x160). There are "pda" versions of some sites, such as [link|http://www.google.com/palm|Google], to address the screen size.

I've tried HezArt's [link|http://www.hezarts.com/mmailplus/|mMail+] and found it to be a rather slick email program. However, I had a problem using it with Sprint's email. Sprint's email was originally set up to only be accessed via browser(possibly to increase air time). It has a slick feature - new email causes a "check email" to be sent to your phone. However, the web interface sucked - you'd see message headers and a line of the message. Hit "next", wait a bit and then see message headers and the next line of the message. Really poor. They added standard SMTP and POP support; however I couldn't get it to work correctly. I could receive email, but not send it(even with "POP before send"). Others reported success with another email program, but I've not tried it yet. A forthcoming email solution, [link|http://www.snappermail.com/palm/email/index.cfm|SnapperMail] looks interesting.
