New It's always been quite ironic

That Disney, one of the biggest backers of mandatory DRM technology and infinitely receding copyright periods, built their empire on public domain works.

New Trouble is..
I never heard the author of the comment, "there are only eight plots for a story" (and prolly any one of us could fill them in - with only slight variance ?? if we tried)

The Greeks did a pretty good job of making Epics of about each one. Ovid pretty well cooled 'romance'. Etc.

But I see your point - Disney is about as innovative as the Beast AND they already DID that one! Beauty and Der Beast. Still and all.. our Primary food group here is, Saccharine. Y'know?

Ashton
New No irony at all
Having done it themselves, who better to understand the value of the public domain? They just have no wish to give potential competitors that leg up.

Cheers,
Ben
