Desktop publishing software reviews?
Decent, inexpensive software for newsletters, newspapers and the like.
I'd prefer to have something that runs on Linux, obviously, but we'll take what we can get.
Thanks.

DocBook, LaTeX
They're not super-sexy, and DocBook is very much oriented toward technical documentation. I'd probably look to a LaTeX template for the output type I'm looking for. I think the commercial stuff (Adobe, Quark) is pretty limited under GNU/Linux.
Can you give us more information on what your task is, specifically, and who's using the SW?

Used by my son and wife :-)
So those two are right out. ;-)
For school projects, etc.

Maybe not
Klyx is a LaTeX front-end. There's now a DFSG free version available, IIRC (there were problems with earlier licensing). Adobe Acrobat has DocBook support. Don't confuse a markup language with its editing support.

I wasn't talking about markup languages. :-)
You were. :-)
I could care less what the storage medium is. I just need something easy and powerful for my family to use. Drag the picture of the cat here, insert title there, etc.

To a certain extent, yes.
But there are also specialized (or at least, more specialized) DTP programs that are geared towards easy placement of text and pictures. Adobe Framemaker, for example. Kontour (nee KIllustrator) does that, but it's still a bit primitive.

In that case...
Karsten gave you recommendations for Klyx and Adobe Acrobat. He just didn't say it that way. :-)
